Hearty Yummy Bean and Ham Soup

- 1 lb. great northern beans shopping list
- 2-3 lb. bone-in ham shopping list
- 2-3 c. water shopping list
- 2-3 c. chicken broth shopping list
- 1 medium onion chopped shopping list
- 2 potatoes diced shopping list
- 3 carrots sliced shopping list
- 3 stalks of celery sliced shopping list
- 2 tbsp dried parsley shopping list
- 1/4 c. milk shopping list
- 1 tsp marjoram shopping list
- 1 tsp oregano shopping list
- 1 tsp salt-preferably kosher shopping list
- 1 tsp black pepper shopping list
- 1 tsp white pepper shopping list
- 1/2 tsp chili powder shopping list
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder shopping list
- 1 c cold water mixed with 8 tbsp flour shopping list
How to make it
- Soak beans overnight
- Drain and pick out any funny-looking beans
- Simmer beans, ham, broth, and 2 cups water for 1-2 hours
- Add broth and water as needed
- Remove the ham and let it cool
- Chop ham and discard the bone
- Return ham to the pot
- Add potatoes, onion, carrots, and spices
- Simmer 30 minutes
- Add celery, milk, and flour/water mixture
- Simmer another 30-45 minutes or until thickened

This was great!!! Never cooked with dry beans before and now I don't think I can ever go back! Made the soup as written and just added a little crumbled bacon on top as garnish....delicious!
