  • 4 1/2 tsp Baking Powder
  • 3/4 tsp Cream of Tartar
  • 2 1/2 Tbs sugar
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup butter (or margarine)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup milk

  2. Grease a baking sheet generously.
  3. In a medium sized bowl; mix your flour, baking powder, tartar, salt and sugar.
  4. Cut in the butter/margarine into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse meal.
  5. In a seperate cup or bowl, beat the egg lightly into the milk.
  6. Add the mixed liquid to the dry ingredients and mix with a fork until the dough JUST holds together.
  7. Onto a floured board or counter, turn the dough out and knead lightly.
  8. Roll the dough out with a floured rolling pin into a slab that is one inch thick. Remember to work quickly so the butter or margarine stays cool.

I'll have to try these next time I make biscuits and gravy - sounds like the perfect biscuit for topping the gravy with (and a lot of jam, for me)...thank you for sharing your family's recipe!

I've heard of these biscuits before, and understand they're really delicious. Will save for future use....love biscuits and gravy! Thanks!

Sounds great to me. You deserve a 5.
