Bunuelos

- Bunuelos:- shopping list
- 2 cups all- purpose flour shopping list
- 1 tsp baking powder shopping list
- 1/2 tsp salt shopping list
- 1 Tblsp granulated sugar shopping list
- 1 large egg - beaten shopping list
- 1/2 cup milk shopping list
- 2 Tblsp butter - melted shopping list
- oil for frying shopping list
- Granulated sugar for dusting shopping list

- Syrup:- shopping list
- 1 1/3 cups light brown sugar shopping list
- 3 cups water shopping list
- 1 inch piece cinnamon stick shopping list
- 1 clove shopping list
How to make it
- Make syrup first.

- Syrup:-
- Combine all ingredients in a saucepan
- Heat, stirring, until the sugar has dissolved
- Simmer until the mixture has reduced to a light syrup
- Remove & discard the spices
- Keep warm while you make the bunuelos or make ahead & warm when bunuelos are ready

- Bunuelos:-
- Sift the flour, salt & baking powder into a bowl
- Stir in the sugar
- In a mixing bowl, whisk the eggs & the milk together until well blended
- Gradually stir in the dry ingredients
- Beat in the melted butter to make a soft dough
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured board & knead it until it is smooth & elastic
- Divide the dough into 18 equal pieces
- Shape into balls & with your hands, flatten into discs about 3/4 inches thick
- Use the floured handle of a wooden spoon to poke a hole in the center of each bunuelo
- Pour oil into a deep frying pan or use a deep fryer & heat to 375 degrees
- Fry the bunuelos in batches, taking care not to overcrowd the pan, until they are puffy & golden brown on both sides
- Lift out with a slotted spoon & drain on paper towels
- Dust the warm bunuelos with sugar & serve with the syrup
