Ingredients
  • 500 g Mehl- flour ( about 4 1/2 cups flour )
  • 125 ml Milch- milk
  • 1 Pkg Trockenhefe- dry yeast
  • 1 Stk Ei- 1 egg
  • 1 Pr Salz- pinch salt
  • 100 g Zucker- sugar ( about 1/2 cup sugar )

  • geschmolzene Butter für die Füllung- melted butter for the filling
  • Zucker für die Füllung- sugar for the filling
  • evtl. Zimt für die Füllung- some cinnamon for the filling

Directions
  1. Zubereitung:Procedure:
  2. Prepare a soft pliable dough from the flour, milk, yeast, salt, sugar and butter by hand mixing and kneading ( or mix ingredients in the breadmachine instead.)
  3. When the dough is mixed be sure to let the dough rise double
  4. The punch down lightly and form into one large log piece and cut out into 6 equal pieces.
  5. Roll out each piece into a circle and spread with butter and sprinkle heavily with some sugar and cinnamon.
  6. Roll each jelly roll style and fold in half by bringing one end over the other.
  7. Cut or slice into each piece veritically almost 2/3 through dough and expose and open the layers and then forming the dough into a roll
  8. Tuck under and close the ends to seal.
  9. Place rolls on baking rack, middle oven and bake 200C ( try 375F to 390F ) until golden and done, about 20 to 40 minutes.
  10. Recipe may be be made as one large coffee cake by above method and baked accordingly.
  11. Note: there were no instructions to let the formed rolls rise double so these are then baked after they are formed and will rise more in the oven during baking
  12. The baked rolls have a pretty fluted look.
  13. Powdered sugar may be sprinkled over the warm rolls
  14. Best eaten warm when freshly made.
