This used to be one of my very favorite sandwiches when we went to lunch at the Jarrettown Hotel nearby. Theirs was served with warm raspberry preserves but I also like what spryte at BakeSpace has done with the sauce!

Ingredients
  • SANDWICH:
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk (approx.)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Pinch sugar
  • Pinch salt
  • 6 slices bread of choice
  • 6 slices Swiss cheese
  • Sliced ham
  • Sliced turkey
  • Dijon mustard
  • Butter
  • SAUCE:
  • 16 ounce can whole berry cranberry sauce
  • 1/4 maple syrup
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions
  1. SANDWICH:
  2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  3. Whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, sugar and salt.
  4. Assemble sandwiches to you liking.. more/less cheese/meat .
  5. Melt butter in skillet.
  6. Dip entire sandwich into egg mixture and put dipped sandwich in hot skillet.
  7. Cook until golden and flip sandwich to other side.
  8. When second side is golden, remove to cookie sheet and bake until cheese is all melty and sandwich is heated through.
  9. SAUCE:
  10. Combine all ingredients in saucepan until warmed.
  11. Serve sauce on the side for dipping sandwiches.

This sounds great! I too used to go to the Jarrettown...I loved their Baked Brie appetizer...fruit bread and Brie..it was almost a meal! Are they still in business? I was just thinking about that place the other day!
Can not wait to try this sandwich!

Actually, tillia, they were shut down for quite a long time to get new owners and to renovate. They reopened about 3 weeks ago but the menu is nothing like it was.. alas, no more Monte Cristos! They are also a bit pricier than they were. I know this only because we received a menu in the mail..
