30 Minutes Shrimp and Sausage Gumbo

- 1/4 cup butter shopping list
- 1/4 cup flour shopping list
- 1/2 cup green pepper, chopped shopping list
- 1/2 cup onion, chopped shopping list
- 1/2 cup celery, chopped shopping list
- 1 clove garlic, minced shopping list
- 14 ounces sausage (your choice), sliced shopping list
- 14 ounces diced tomatoes, drained shopping list
- 14 ounces chicken stock shopping list
- 10 ounces frozen okra, thawed and sliced shopping list
- 1 small bay leaf shopping list
- 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme shopping list
- 1/4 teaspoon salt shopping list
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper shopping list
- 1/2 pound medium shrimp, cleaned shopping list
- 6 cups hot cooked rice shopping list
How to make it
- Melt butter in large skillet on medium high heat.
- Stir in flour.
- Cook for 4 minutes OR until golden brown, stirring frequently.
- Add green pepper, onion, celery and garlic.
- Cook 2 to 3 minutes OR until crisp-tender, stirring occasionally.
- Add sausage, tomatoes, broth, okra, bay leaf and thyme.
- Stir until well blended.
- Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
- Bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat to medium low, cover.
- Simmer 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Stir in shrimp.
- Cook 5 minutes OR until shrimp are opaque, stirring frequently.
- Remove and discard bay leaf.
- Spoon over hot rice.
