Ingredients

How to make it

  • Place bacon in a large, deep skillet.
  • Cook over medium high heat until evenly browned and crisp.
  • Remove bacon and set aside.
  • Cook onion in the hot bacon grease until tender.
  • Add cabbage.
  • Stir in water, sugar, salt and pepper.
  • Cook until cabbage wilts, about 15 minutes.
  • Stir in bacon.
  • Splash with vinegar before serving OR serve with vinegar on the side.

    I look at bacon "grease" staring me in the face and feel that perhaps I should have used the word "drippings" instead. Whatever! Thanks for your five, lisa!

    I'm liking wynne's idea of adding potatoes.. mmmmm! But I also like bobby's idea of adding buttered noodles. I never would have thought of the brussels sprouts angle, mark. I guess I should just thank you all for your confidence and your fives! Love ya..

    Sounds great! We do something similar with brussels sprouts! We shred them like cabbage and then do what you have done and at the last minute - a squeeze of lime juice!
