How to make it

  • Sift together dry ingredients; add buttermild, egg, and oil. Mix until dry ingredients are just moist - do not over mix. Pour into a greased, hot 10-inch oven-proof skillet.
  • Bake in preheated hot oven (450) for 20 - 25 minutes. Serve warm from the oven

This looks great to mix ahead and have on hand. I usually make my cornbread with a box of jiffy mix and a can of creamed corn so I'm kind of clueless as to all the ingredients to make it from scratch. I have a question though, being I'm a northern girl. You listed 1 teaspoon of soda. I'm not sure if that's suppose to be baking soda (this is my guess since it's only 1 teaspoon) or the stuff you drink like soda water. Thanks for the recipe I'd love to try it I'm just not sure what "soda" means.
