Another good butter softening tip for a larger amount is to place the whole block (unwrapped) in between 2 layers of saran wrap and beat it with a rolling pin until it flattens out a little bit, then unwrap, re-fold and beat again. Makes it putty-soft and helps get out any frustration!

Some of these I find quite interesting. Others...well, shall we say, a little outdated. However, these have been taken from magazines and cookbooks from clear back in the 50's and that is when I started baking. So it would seem that way, I guess. How do you young people feel about some of them? If a glass breaks now, I just let the water out. (#21)When we were carrying the water from the pump and heating it ourselves, we were more frugal with the dishwater. **LOL** - Linda

There are some great tips here. What alot of work to post them. Thanks ,some of them should come in handy. The one about the marshmallows might be a life saver. Grandkids were so disappointed when they wanted to roast some and they were hard. Great post

I can't wait to try the grilled cheese with mayo instead of butter, sounds interesting!
The tip of reusing nylon bags from produce is a great idea to save money on cleaning sponges and is a great way to "recycle". The tip that says you can use the extra oven rack as a cooling rack when baking is a great idea also. I live in a small apartment and I do not own a lot of cooking equipment for that reason. This is a very resourceful use of items I already have! Thanks for the ideas!!
