Apple Crisp

- TOPPING: shopping list
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour shopping list
- 1/4 cup white sugar shopping list
- 1/4 cup brown sugar shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon shopping list
- 1/4 teaspoons fresh OR ground nutmeg shopping list
- 1/8 teaspoon salt shopping list
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into pieces shopping list
- 1/3 cup old-fashioned rolled oats shopping list
- 1/3 cup chopped walnuts OR pecans shopping list
- FILLING: shopping list
- 2 1/2 pounds (6 cups) Granny Smith OR other tart apple, peeled, cored and cut into 1" chunks. shopping list
- 1 cup fresh berries, optional and your choice shopping list
- juice of 1/2 lemon shopping list
- 1 teaspoon lemon zest shopping list
- 3 tablespoons white sugar shopping list
How to make it
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F/190 degrees C..
- Place rack in center position.
- Butter OR spray a 9" deep-dish pie plate OR an 8x8x2" baking dish OR 8 individual ramekins.
- Set aside.
- TOPPING:
- Place all ingredients in food processor and process until crumbly.
- Set aside.
- FILLING:
- Place apple chunks in large bowl along with berries (optional) and zest.
- Toss with lemon juice and sugar.
- Transfer to prepared dish(es).
- Spread topping evenly over apples.
- Bake for 30 to 40 minutes (20 to 25 minutes for ramekins) OR until golden and bubbly.
- Remove from oven
- Place on wire rack and cool for 30 minutes before serving.
- Serve with whipped cream OR vanilla ice cream.
- Refrigerate leftovers and reheat before serving.
