Homemade Sweetened Condensed Milk Recipe

Ingredients

6 cups whole milk

4 1/2 cups sugar

1/2 vanilla bean

Directions

In saucepan, add milk and sugar

Heat over medium low heat adding vanilla bean, scraped with the back edge of a knifeadding seeds and pod

When sugar is dissolved, raise heat to medium high and bring to between simmer and boil, stirring occasionally, about 1 hour

Do not let milk stick to bottom of pan

Milk will thicken, turn very light brown, then darken to light tan

Strain through sieve into bowl and cool

Will reduce to 4 1/2 cups

Keeps 2 weeks in fridge
