How to make it

  • In a large stock pot, cook tongue for about 4 hours on Med-High heat with 2 bay leaves, 1 onion diced and garlic. You want to boil till the skin of the tongue is removed easily. Remove tongue from stock and lay on a cutting board. Remove the skin and return back to stock. Add potatoes, onions, celery and carrots. Continue boiling for 3-4 more hours.

I too grew up eating cow tongue. I know it sounds gross to lots of folk but it's one of the most tender, delicious tasting meats you can find. This recipe sounds really good. I've only ever boiled it with the bay leaves & salt & pepper so I will definately this recipe out. Thanks & 5 forks

One of mom's specialties. Nice to work with as it's boneless. Sometimes the sweetbread is still attached.
