- 1-1/4 lbs. lean ground pork shopping list
- 1/2 lb. lean ground beef shopping list
- NOTE: You can use ground meat of your choice ie. turkey, buffalo, ostrich... shopping list
- 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon shopping list
- 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg or cloves shopping list
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped shopping list
- 1 carrot, grated or finely chopped shopping list
- 1 apple, grated or chopped shopping list
- 1 celery rib, finely chopped shopping list
- 1 potato, cut into small cubes shopping list
- Note: I like to add 1-2 cloves of minced garlic shopping list
- 1/2 cup water or beef broth shopping list
- Note: When the meat and veggie mixture has cooled, I know some people who like to add hard boiled eggs that have been coarsely chopped or quartered. shopping list
- 1 tsp. salt (not necessary if using beef broth) shopping list
- 1/2 tsp. pepper shopping list
- Note: I have sometimes added a teaspoon/splash of brandy shopping list
- Double 9" Pie Crust: shopping list
- 2 cups flour shopping list
- 1 tsp. salt shopping list
- 3/4 cup vegetable shortening and butter mixed shopping list
- 5-6 Tbsp. ice cold water shopping list
How to make it
- Place all ingredients into a deep frying pan and cook covered on a low heat for approximately 1 hour or until meat and veggies are tender and liquid has reduced.
- Stir occasionally.
- Allow meat mixture to cool before pouring into pastry.
- Put bottom crust in pie plate, spread mixture evenly and place top pastry on mixture.
- Trim and crimp the edges.
- Create slits in the top pastry to allow the steam to escape.
- Place in a 400 degree oven until lightly browned , 25 to 30 minutes, depending on oven.
