How to make it

  • In a medium bowl combine the first 4 ingredients
  • pinch to form coarse crumbs
  • carefully scoop out the core of the apples (you can use a melon baller or a teaspoon) make sure not to go all the way to the bottom or to break the sides
  • fill each apple with the streusel filling, stuffing the apples to the top
  • place apples in a shallow baking dish (9x9)
  • in a small bowl stir together the juice, honey and cinnamon
  • pour into the pan
  • bake uncovered @ 425 for 25-30 min or until the apples are tender
  • (if the streusel starts to burn loosely cover the pan with tin foil)
  • drizzle the apples with pan juices
  • this is really good served with either thick caramel, whip cream or ice cream

I also think it sounds wonderful - perhaps granny smith apples would be less sweet Magpie. I agree on prefering tarter apples. :-)

I love the sound of this recipe but I think for me personnally, I would use Bramley cooking apples as I would find the ordinary eating apples too sweet for me. But that is just a personal choice. Otherwise it will be great. I have to wait a bit for my new Stove to arrive as at the moment I am having to use a Microwave and all thin gs cannot be prepared in that.
