St. Patty's Day Possibilites

  • chuckieb 11 years ago
Although it is still only 32F outside and I have a snowbank still filling half of my living room window I feel spring is peeking through. There's melting going on and the birds are starting up their song making. And.....
St. Patrick's Day is next Sunday! I use any Holiday as a reason to celebrate. Bought a little bottle of Irish Whiskey yesterday and am going to try either
    Irish Coffee
    or
    Irish Irish Coffee
out next weekend. Will probably make Tina's
    Irish Melt
Made it last year as well and really, really enjoyed it. I've done an Irish Pot roasted chicken in past years, Irish soda bread, Irish stew.....
Anyone else have any plans or menus they're thinking of?

Janet, we usually just do corned beef & cabbage! Funny, I don't eat corned beef, but adore cabbage:) Along with some potatoes & carrots:) Rick loves corned beef sandwiches on rye as well...Whoo Hoo on the Irish Whiskey!! That will warm your bones:)

LOL Janet, Isn't St. Patty's Day when you will be leaving for England? I am not sure if they celebrate it big time there for political reasons? Even though Den is Irish we probably won't do much possibly Irish Stew. LOL No green beer either Ugh! I might make an Irish coffee though that sounds like a good idea. LOL I should try another attempt at getting all the ingredients for Tina' Irish Melt as LOL last year Den bought raisin bread instead of rye bread!!!

I love both corned beef and cabbage Marie.
Our flight doesn't leave until around 11 p.m. I think Joce. So we'll have time for a quick supper before we head to the airport. (Plus there's a Sens Game on at 5 p.m. too I think) :). Irish stew sounds nice. I made
    Irish Northern Irish Potato Bread
one year to go with an Irish stew and it was quite nice. Different. (In a nice way) :) That's right...LOL..I remember now about the raisin bread. LOL.

I didn't know you were going to England!!! Now I really am jealous, I have always wanted to go there and go to Bath to see where Jane Austen wrote some(or most) of her books:)

My Mom's cousin is a HUGE Jane Austen fan Marie and he could talk about it for hours! He made several trips to England over the course of his life time, some strictly to visit Jane Austin sites. We'll be in Cambridge which is a fair distance from Bath and I'll take a train up to Lincolnshire to visit my relatives while I'm there but that's even farther away. :) I know I'm very lucky to be able to travel with Jim on business. I appreciate every moment. Believe me.

Irish Melts on the table here.....Although I'll probably crock pot a big piece of corned beef, as well. I can always make part of it into hash. Liv is working and will wear her green and white plaid Halloween costume. Apparently, corned beef is an American tradition according to the perfectly perfect Irish Colleen at work. She is very derisive of our so-called Irish tradition.

Funny story, my adoptive dad, Buddy used to tell me how much he loved Ireland and it was one of his favorite places to visit. And later on, he told me he never got out of the actual airport. He spent his whole time at the airport bar drinking Irish coffee. LOL that is the Buddy I knew. Miss you more than you know, daddy. Might have to make a little Irish coffee just for you.

How cool to be going to England for a trip! Very nice indeed.

Schmalleeen Colleen. Lighten up. Holidays deserve celebrations no matter what tradition one follows. Someone should just pass her an Irish Coffee and see if that helps. :)
LOL @ Buddy in the airport in Ireland. That's funny.

My thoughts exactly, Janet. Colleen and I got lumped together in training class (same age) and the trainers seemed to think we were joined at the hip. I couldn't abide her perfectly perfect persona. She spoke out of turn always and was rude to most of the class with her attitude. I was so happy to be out of class and chose a desk as far from her as possible. And she constantly bragged about her cooking prowess and her Irish meals were the best. Over and over and over.....blah, blah, blah blah.

I think our American-ized St. Patty's day is fun. Always have.

This all sounds like so much fun. I have never celebrated any further than wearing green on St Patrick's Day when we were kids, to avoid getting pinched! lol Never knew anyone that really celebrated until you all! lol Did I tell you I live in a bubble?? :)

When your winter's are long and cold you use any excuse you can find for a celebration Lori and that helps you make it through 'til spring. :)
That's a cute Leprechaun cocktail Tina. I had to google Midori. I've never had that. The second one looks quite like a Mojito doesn't it. And the egg rolls were cute.

Midori is a bit too sweet. A melon liquor, I believe. It would need a generous dose of something unsweet to make it palatable for me.

I thought the corned beef and cabbage pizza looked interesting enough to try.
Crowley's downtown St. Pete does make a Rueben Egg roll and the dipping sauce is the 1000 Island dressing. They are so good. They also make Irish Nachos with deep fried potato rounds as the chips, chopped beef and cheese, jalapenos as the nacho topping. Talk about filling......as an appetizer you can't eat a meal after those yummy potatoes.
