Cookies!

"For the Christmas Cookie Swap Challenge, December 2016"

I never got a chance to take individual pictures of some of the recipes, but I have made them all before! ;)
I made 3 of Eastcoaster's recipes: The stars are Italian Shortcrust Cookies, I used a lemon glaze that my daughter sprinkled with red and green decorator sugar. The kids devoured all of these, their favorite cookie on the tray!
Whipped Scotch Cookies that I lightly rolled by the teaspoonful and gently pushed half a maraschino cherry on top of. I used a good organic butter in these and they are heaven on a plate!
And the date squares which I already added to Nadines IMI link awhile back, Date Squares

I made Moms Thumbprint Cookies, which are the exact cookies my Mom and Grandma always made. A staple in our house. The recipe instructions leave out rolling them in nuts, which is strange. You could leave them plain but then there is no need to dip the cookie in the egg white! I used pecans this time, and I always use raspberry jam. I prefer these cookies with margarine over butter. They hold there shape better with margarine and you don't have a taste difference as all the flavor is coming from the jam and nuts.

The foreground are my maple butter tart's, and the chocolates are the Martha Washington Balls I put in IMI awhile back.

And I'm not done baking yet! ;)

It's hard to pick one favorite! But the thumbprints are my personal fave followed by the shortbread. But ask me on a different day and it's probably the butter tarts!
I'm craving Nanaimo Bars....it doesn't feel like Christmas without them.. lol..;)

Cosmicmom, I don't have many people to bake for at any time of the year, so didn't do a whole lot. You could open a bakery with all the goodies and cookies you made! I did make our absolute favorite Christmas cookie and my husband and I "sampled" a few before giving the rest away with the other cookies I made. I posted the recipe under my old screen name of bestcooker: Meltaway Cookies It's very like the Pecan Puffs you make, but doesn't have nuts in it. I also made my tried and true sugar cookie recipe and cut it into trees, snowflakes, stars, and candy cane shapes. So cute! My cookie press broke a few years ago and I threw it away, but I had the bright idea to pipe out cookies using a pastry bag and a 1M tip. I tried a recipe from here for that, but it didn't work for me, but neither did my tried and true spritz cookie recipe. I ended up making my tried and true spritz recipe, rolling it into balls, and flattening them in one direction only with the tines of a fork. That worked great and I will do that again. I would love to have made more recipes. Every time I see a cookie recipe I think ooooh, that looks good, I should make that - haha! Cookies are my favorite thing to make and share :)

Bakerme, the meltaway cookies do look similar to the pecan puffs minus the nuts; but also similar to the thumbprint cookies with the inclusion of an egg yolk. That turns them from a "short" crumbly cookie to a more tender cookie. They are on my list of must try's!! :D

Thanks Bren, I was sick before Christmas so I missed out on some baking and I'm making up for it now ;)

Thanks Michelle, the thumbprints are so easy and quick to make-- they only make a dozen so they fit on one tray. Maybe you need some New Year's eve treats, lol ;)

You're welcome Manella, and thank you for sharing your recipes!! :)
