Bulgur Stuffed Cabbage

Recipe by Cuzpat: Bulgur Stuffed Cabbage
It's a good recipe if you like your cabbage raw and a ton of extra stuffing.
This author's idea of a small head of cabbage surely is different than mine. OR. Somehow the stuffing ingredients were doubled or more.
After the fact, I looked at other stuffed cabbage recipes. Found all of them to be simmered on the stovetop or baked for at least double the time and more. AND the pots were covered to help make the cabbage done. AND there was a lot more liquid in the pot.
I'm going back to the store for a large head of cabbage and some maranara sauce to cover.
There's way too much food here to waste.
    Does not deserve a picture.
And on the recipe page is another example of people high rating the recipe with their eyes.
This recipe does not deserve more than 2-stars at the most until it is severely modified.

Alrighty then! Bought a large head of cabbage and steamed open the leaves. Got everything wrapped with a couple of large leaves left which I put on the bottom of a stock pot and a little maranara sauce to keep the stuffers from scorching. Layered the stuffed leaves, including the ones from this recipe, alternating with maranara sauce. Used 2 bottles of the stuff which is about 6cups. Cut up the heart of the cabbage for the top and the last of the maranara sauce. Poured in about 1cup of cabbage boiling water until I could see it. Liquid is almost to cover. Simmering covered on the stove top for 2 hours. We'll go from there.

That does look like a lot of filling for a small cabbage, pso. Sounds like you are making good use of everything though!

After 2 hours the leaves still needed more time in the stew but the flavor was good. Served it up a roll over a slice of oat wheat bread. YUM. Can't wait for the cabbage to be fork tender.

At least the flavors were good... so you didn't have to fix that too. I have had bulgur once a long time ago and can't remember if I liked it or not.. I'm sure I liked it though :) Glad this ended up turning out okay.

Bought some somewhere sometime ago for a recipe and the remainder has been holding out in the pantry. Thought I would find a recipe to use it in so I could free up a dried goods container for some bulk yeast instead of buying it in those foil packets.
Bulgur has a neutral taste for me.
