Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes

  • sparow64 12 years ago
Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes/saved posted by Debra47 are fantastic! Made these tonight with stuffed porkchops and sauteed spinach. Everything I have made of Debra's has been great, and these were no exception. Posted a pic and a review on the page. The only note I would make is that I didn't even try to bake this for 1 hour at 350, because potatoes never get done enough for us at that temp. I baked for 1 hour at 400, and still nuked them 12 more minutes (in a hurry because Bryan had to go to work on night shift!). I would bake for an hour at 450 next time, or an hour and a half at 400. (I don't have problems with cakes or anything, my temp is correct in the oven). Sprinkled some bacon bits on top just before serving, just because Bryan wanted me to. lol It's a very good recipe, that I will definately make again.

I've made a couple of recipes from Debra as well with great turn outs! This one looks good! I have had an aversion to scalloped potatoes ONLY because before I found out I loved cooking, which meant I never cooked, my husband would make the one's from the box and I would eat them to be nice (we were newly weds hehe) and they were disgusting! I just have never had the will power to even make them homemade since then. Bad memories lol! Maybe, just maybe, I'll give it a go with this one soon. It looks like a simple way to start! Thanks for sharing (and listen to me ramble on:)

That's a neat idea about the bacon! I've put ham in scalloped potatoes before, so it makes perfect sense! :)

Already has the Reviews Icon. Had to bring up the Beta Reviews List 12 3 13 to find the IMI string for this recipe. So I gave it a bump to the top.
After seeing the comments about the taters not being done, I bumped up the temp to 400F and still had to do an extra half hour in the convection oven. Covered.
I prefer my onions sauteed first and layered them in the middle of the taters.
Follow this line of direction religiously "Stir constantly until slightly thickened." And key on the word slightly. If you don't the sauce will become way too thick.
    Salt, salt, salt.

Added a link back from the recipe page.

Tried to do that ASCII code thing for the degree character (alt0176) and it didn't work.
I'm on Windows10 and Firefox browser.

It seems like 1 tsp of salt would be OK when I look at it. Do you think twice as much?
Maybe its Windows 10, pso. I use Firefox but I am still on Windows 7.

That's a lot of potato for only 1tsp salt.

Yours turned out looking really good Points!
Hhhmm...I have Windows 10. You have to do it in the number pad on the right of your keyboard, it doesn't work with the numbers up top.

Nope, not on the numbers pad either.
° OK, the caps lock must be on for this to work
° or the Numlk will work also.
