    Fabulous Bread Pudding

Yes the flavour was good on this but it had a texture of a custard pudding not a bread pudding. If I do this recipe next time I will add more bread.

Nadine, that's my recipe posted under my old screen name of bestcooker and I had to do a double take when I saw it in the group reviews! I have found the secret to making it is to use a firm textured bread like Pepperidge Farms or Earth Grains (I can't think of the names of any of the other hearty breads right now) or it comes out too soft and mushy. Thank you for trying it and I'll be interested in seeing how it works for you next time :)

I have never made bread pudding before, glad you gave alternatives for the raisins Bakerme, hate them!

I've never made bread pudding either and I also don't like raisins! :-)
I see this only has 1/4 cup of dried fruit so I am thinking the 1.5 in the other is a lot!

The original recipe I got from my neighbor calls for 1/4 C. fruit, but I've found we like more, so add it to taste. Since I can't get on as bestcooker any more, I can't change the recipe to reflect that. My husband likes raisins, but I don't so use cherries or craisins.

Thanks for the info Bakerme. Will try with a firmer bread for sure.

Mommyluvs2cook bread pudding is a great way to use leftover bread rather than croutons or bread crumbs.

Actually I bumped the raisins up to 1/2 a cup on this one as we enjoy raisins.

April 4/16 made it again using whole wheat and white bread which I bumped up to 6 cups. Also increased the raisins to 1 cup next time will use 3/4 of a cup. This will be my go recipe from now on.

Nadine, I'm so glad this came out better for you the second time around! Firmer textured bread really does make all the difference. Thanks for the nice, updated review. It made my day! :)

Oooh, I think I'd like this one as I like a bread pudding that's custardy. Thanks Nadine! Many moons ago there was an authentic German restaurant in Allentown, NJ that had THE best custardy bread pudding that I would get every time I had dinner there. Sure do miss it.
