Old Fashioned Bread Pudding With Vanilla Sauce

What a great recipe for sure. I used whole wheat bread and it worked perfect. I have non left.

Nadine, that *does* look good! I have a favorite bread pudding recipe that doesn't include butter, but see that most do. What does the butter do in the recipe?

That is another thing I have never had - bread pudding. I don't even know what it is like!

Frankie and Mommyluvs2cook, here is my recipe posted under my old screen name of bestcooker: Fabulous Bread Pudding

Taking Susanmay's suggestion, I now use more raisins or Craisins, but can't get back on the site as bestcooker anymore to change it in the recipe.

Bakerme that recipe of yours looks great bookmarked for next time. I have always used butter or I cannot believe it's not butter. So I cannot tell you if there is any difference but I think that it would add a buttery taste.

Nadine and Mommyluvs2cook, I hope you like it as much as we do! The key is to use a firm textured bread like Pepperidge Farm, not the soft marshmallowy stuff like Sunbeam or Wonder, which bake up like mush.

Excellent flavor! Although I did use a cream cheese extract instead of vanilla. The caramel sauce made my teeth hurt because it was so sweet.
Doubled the recipe and it fit well in a 9x13 casserole dish.
The sauce instruction is a little confusing. The gist is to boil it for the spec'ed time to thicken the sauce. The sauce is more akin to an ice cream topping.
