Good dish. I think it more of the authors version of a layered hamburger helper.
Still, well flavored. Didn't use the optional meats. And I could have given the casserole more dwell time in the oven to brown up a little.
I'm wondering if the author meant green bell peppers or some other green pepper to give the dish some bite.

I've looked at that one a couple of times. I just haven't gotten around to it yet. Poster must have meant green bells, don't you think? A cup of hot, green chili like peppers would be oweeee owwwww! :)

I used bells. Diced green peppers come in small 4oz cans. Two of them would make a cup. Maybe just one would spice up the dish some. It didn't taste much like pizza to me. Maybe the addition of the optional peperoni would help in the conversion to a pizza taste.

Use Italian sausage instead of ground beef and a can of pizza sauce instead of tomato sauce. Italian sausage is already listed as an optional addition, but I think it as the main meat, and maybe the addition of pepperoni, would go a long way to making this taste more pizza-like. Other than those two changes, this looks good!

You caught me! I used some homemade tomato sauce which is more like a garlic and herb pasta sauce.
I agree on the Italian Sausage. And it's even cheaper than ground beef at $4/lb. : (
