Recipe by Donman: The Perfect Hard Boiled Egg
Yields a done egg with the yolk set up throughout with no grey ring. Not as much tedium as my posted recipe: The Perfect Hard Boiled Egg

I remember many years ago learning from Jacques Pepin that immediately putting your boiled eggs in cold water would stop that green covering of the yolk. Now I immediately rinse mine with super cold water and then fill up the pan with the eggs in it with cold water and let them sit for about 15 minutes. I never have green around my yolks!

I do the same as you Points and it works great! I can't remember where I learned it from but I have been doing it for many many years. I also do a similar thing with pasta which works like a charm.

I also add a little vinegar to the water that your cooking the eggs in...helps them to peel easier (I don't have a clue where I got this info) and always cool the eggs in ice water:)

I immediately run cold water over mine, too, and no green/gray. I don't let them sit a certain amount of time, just let them get cold enough to handle. And if the water in the pan warms up I pour it out and run cold again. Learned that from my Mom, she always said letting them sit in the warm water too long was what made them gray/green. :)

I'm gonna have to try that vinegar trick, Marie!

I've used vinegar too but have found out recently that baking soda in the water does the same thing with no vinegar smell in the house...(Hubby hates the smell of vinegar.)

I cook mine just like this! I make them for my husband the night before so he can grab some in the morning. I actually peel them as well under running water, makes the peeling easier! I do the vinegar thing too, heard it helps with something lol!
