Fruity Friday

Morning all! It is FINALLY a beautiful day outside today! We have had about four days of overcast, so it's good to see the sun :)

Going to the gym in a bit, then I need to get my Dad a birthday present. Tomorrow evening we are having a surprise birthday party for my Dad's 60th at his favorite restaurant, T-bone Tom's (It was on Diner's, Drive-In's, and DIves). Also need to go to the store and get prepared for a tournament this weekend. 2 games tonight and 2 tomorrow and maybe more and into Sunday if we are doing well. Going to get lots of fruit and some more bottled waters, as tomorrow is probably going to be hot.

Going to make enchilada soup this afternoon to reheat when we need it for tonight or this weekend since I have no idea what the time schedule will be. Me and the new truck below, crossing fingers it doesn't upload upside down! :)

Oh wow!! I'm envious ... I love those trucks! Congratulations. I hope you get many many good years out of it.
I started reading these posts and hope nobody minds if I jump in here and there. I usually don't have as much going on as everyone else. Both DH and I are retired (retired early (DH is 62, I'm 53) and we moved to FL about 2 years ago but we hate it and have been looking to move somewhere else and looking and researching where has been taking time. We don't want to make another mistake.
Will probably grill tonight. Usually something simple as DH taste is pretty simple. Every now and then I make something unusual for myself but when I do I'm cooking two meals.

Beautiful truck Michelle;) That's EXACTLY what Rick wants:) We've been thinking of getting a new truck..Rick has a Chevy 1 ton utility bed for work..it's older and in great condition..but it gets about 10 MPG...we'd like to get another truck, full size 4WD, double cab, regular bed..he's leaning towards a Ford..I like GM products (since I used to work at GM dealerships,, I know GM products, Ford, not so much!) We'd like to find a gently used newer model:)

Hi Linda:) So nice of you to stop by! You are always welcome!
You can always move to California:) I like that we can get to the coast with in 3-4 hours..I don't think I could live in a state not "near" the ocean. I know, sounds weird..LOL
Cool that you and your husband are both retired...my husband and I have a garage door business..he's your age, 53 and I'm 59 (but don't look a day over 58 haha). I do the book work, he does the door work:) So, I don't work a 40 hour week, just do what needs to be done no matter if it's early in the morning, at night or weekends.
We work out of our home, no need for a shop..our garage is our shop:) I sure wish we could retire:(

Don't have a clue what to make for dinner..sigh...

    Happy Friday all:)

Lucky you with the sunshine Michelle! Gray skies and raining on my end. :( Fun @ your Dad's birthday and T-Bone Tom's. I'll have to google it. Your new truck is gorgeous! Very fun! (And the license plate can be considered personalized because you are the 'cook' in the family?) LOL!

Hi Linda! Welcome to 'Our Daily Dinner'! Nice to meet you. My hubby and I retired early as well. Me, almost four years ago at 52 and my Hubby a year and a bit ago at 55. Oh dear @ not liking Florida. What was the reason you decided to move there initially? What are you looking for in a new place that would entice you to move there? Am envious of your BBQ'ing tonight. Although....we may actually get to do that ourselves. I have a major craving for a good BBQ steak!

So...the hair cut appointment mix up yesterday turned out to be my fault. LOL. I did indeed have the appointment written down in my day book for today but my appointments are ALWAYS on Thursdays so I just assumed I'd written it down incorrectly. But nope. So....my hair dresser called me this morning and said we were still on for today and I am now shorn. :)

Jim and I are heading out to do some family tree research at the Lanark Archives located between Carleton Place and Perth. An hour? or so drive?

May pop in some where for lunch although I could pack sandwiches. We shall see.

    Wishing everyone a great Friday!

SP Marie! If I had started the thread this morning I was thinking of calling it "FSW Friday" as I was totally channelling FSW this morning! Jim woke me up with his snoring at 6:45 this morning and I was not impressed. Once I'm awake at that time there's no chance of me falling back asleep so I got up. Grrrrr. :) Hope you have an easy day today. Is your weekend clear so you get a chance for some relax time?

Moved to Florida for a change of pace. Both of us lived in NJ all our lives and thought Florida would be ideal because of weather. It's actually too hot all the time and because it's so hot and humid all the time other problems exist because of it (bugs, mold, mildew, bacteria in the oceans, mosquitoes, etc.) plus the houses are just too close together, we miss having a basement, and when you have "bad" neighbors (and we do) it's not good. I enjoy the cool/colder weather (but not driving in snow/ice). Seriously looking at areas south of Charlotte NC. Seems nice but my concern is the nuclear power plants that are near. I never realized how many are in our country! Yikes!! Not sure where else to consider. Thanks for the welcome. P.S. ... my DH gets up for no good reason between 4:00 - 6:00 a.m. Thanks God I can fall back asleep.

Hi Michelle, love the truck! We have the same one it looks like. Ours is a F-150 super crew with a short box, 4wd. It's a very dark green, and older of course--2009 I think? I can't believe you're in shorts and flip-flops already, I guess this is the start of your summer. :) Sounds like you have a busy weekend, Happy Birthday to your dad!

Hi Linda, please come and chat here anytime, everyone is welcome! :) I'm sipping on my cold brew coffee this morning, it's very good! Cold Water Brew Coffee I left a review in your IMI thread. :) I can't stand the heat and humidity as well, so I can understand your predicament. Perhaps taking a vacation to some of the places on your list, and look around at the neighbourhoods? Our last city, the homes were too close together and we had two neighbours from hell, ugh. Thankfully we have a much larger property now in a quiet bedroom community--we lucked out!

Hi Marie! Lol, you don't look a day over 58 ;);) I miss the ocean being in this land-locked Province! I really miss the Pacific Northwest--perfectly comfortable for me, not too hot, not too cold and hardly any snow at sea level. Just in the mountains and higher elevations.

Hi Janet, oh goodness on Jim's snoring! Pete snores really bad, that for the most part he has to sleep downstairs! We've tried breath-right strips, mouth guards etc....I just can't sleep through it anymore ;) Enjoy your family tree research and outing today!

I hope your feeling a bit better today Joce!
    Hi Tina, Karen, and everyone!

Not much happening today. It's sunny and clear, most of the snow has melted, yay! I'll probably take the dogs out for a walk. My shoulder and neck are still killing me, I must have slept on it wrong the other day or my bad shoulder is getting arthritis. I know I have to make a doctor appt., I've been holding it off for a long time as they will recommend surgery---it's been 4 years since they told me that :S I'm a bad patient! Lol!
I have some ground beef thawing, I'll probably make meatballs or a Bolognese sauce with pasta tonight.

    Have a great day everyone!

Did the door delivery guys get doughnuts as usual Marie? :) Always makes me smile to think of you delivering them out to them. :) Very sweet. Champagne brunch on Sunday sounds perfect.

Though I've never been to neither New Jersey nor Florida I can still imagine that they are quite different from each other Linda. :) I couldn't handle heat all the time plus I really do love 'four season's. Ugh on bad neighbours. That's most unfortunate. LOL @ your hubby being an early riser.

I saw that Cold Brew Coffee IMI post Shona and I think I would love it but it sounds a tad bit finicky to make? Plus the storage. Maybe if I made half a batch. In Taiwan they drink cold coffee way more than hot, again because of the weather. Sorry to hear your shoulder and neck are hurting you. :( Rest up if you can. Yum on your dinner.

Ditto on what Shona said Joce. Feel better!!!!

Jim and I had a SUPER nice time at the Archives. The moment we entered and signed in the fellow at the desk (he'd be in his late '70's) asked Jim what family he was researching and what do you know....he and Jim are related. LOLOLOL. Tooooo funny! He's super nice and they talked for a good couple of hours. With the man being a volunteer for the Archives he was of course a wealth of information! He and Jim exchanged contact info and I suspect we will see a lot more of him in the not too distant future. It was very special. :)

Lunch at a little diner in Carleton Place called "The Gourmet Restaurant". LOLOL. The food was good. I had fish n' chips and Jim had 1/4 chicken dinner. Very low key. My entree came with either Pea soup or juice (I chose tomato) and then dessert, either rice pudding or jello with whipped cream. LOL. I passed on that. The portions were huge. It just reminded me of an old fashioned small town restaurant. A girlfriend of mine had recommended it to me.

Since we didn't finish eating 'til at least 3:30 I think we'll probably skip dinner. I may make Marie's mushroom cap recipe and put out some cheese, crackers and cold cuts later on.
    Still rainy and overcast.

    It was a nice day.
