Happy Canada Day Wednesday!

Good Morning Everyone! It's a rainy, wet day here in the Nation's Capital! It'll put a bit of a damper on those who are heading downtown to watch the Canada Day Festivities and Fireworks on Parliament Hill.
As I mentioned yesterday, Jim and I have invited my girlfriend and her husband over for dinner tonight.
I'm going to serve up some Brie with crackers and Red pepper jelly along with Luisa's
Savory Chive Madeleines With Smoked Salmon And Creme Fraiche
    Entree is
5 Spice Rock Cornish Game Hens
    with
    Watermelon Feta Salad
    and a spinach salad.
Dessert is a frozen cream cheese nest (I'll post the recipe later) filled with fresh local strawberries, blueberries and maybe some orange pieces.
I have a lot of cooking to do! :)
Fun plans for the Fourth of July Michelle! It's nice that most of your nights are now free. You all deserve a bit of a summer vacation! LOL @ grilling your whole freezer! :) The leftovers sound wonderful.
Oh Shona, so sorry to hear you've all been so sick! :( Ugh on the smoke and smog from the forest fires. That'd be nasty. That Strawberry Short Cake Punch bowl cake looked amazing! What a pretty picture! I came across a recipe that I used to make a lot, years ago, for the cream cheese nests (they have some lemon zest in them for flavour).
Sounds like you have nice plans for the Fourth of July as well Karen.
I still have my fingers crossed for your job interview results Laurie and good luck with this other interview next week as well. "Go You" on the running club. You've got to be dedicated if you're getting up that early!
Neat on the Dachshund figurine Tina. I actually brought home a Dachshund salt and pepper shaker from my Mom's. It's been in the house as long as I can remember (even longer I'm sure. LOL) Take good care and feel better. I hope you get some good results from your Dr.'s appointment on Thursday.
Marie, hope all is well on your end.
Joce....hope you're doing okay too. You and Den often go out boating on Canada Day don't you?
Happy Canada Day to you in Fiji Michelle B.! :)
    HAVE A GREAT DAY EVERYONE!

    Happy Canada day!
I have a doctors apt after work so I am thinking shepards pie since it's quick. Not sure if I have potatoes I just threw out a bag of old ones. Might be instant lol.
My ankles hurt. Probably from running but I wonder if there is some way to prevent it. My whole legs were hurting last night Geez you would think I run the Boston marathon and not just 5k

Happy Canada Day! Janet your menu sounds fabulous!!! I love watermelon feta salad. I wouldn't turn up my nose for brie and red pepper jelly.

Laurie, you would lure my missing daughter with Shepards pie. I hope you don't have shin splints Will Motrin help? Good luck again on the ideal employment.

I woke up to two sick dogs. Lola and Molly. They were eating grass last night. Not having fun right now.

I have a package of chicken thighs thawed. I'm marinating in Jezebel sauce (horseradish, mustard and apricot preserves), I'll cook later. I'll probably pick the chicken for salads and soups. I don't think the marinade will make it too sweet once I take off the skin. I'm going to make a couple deviled eggs. I need greens for salads, but I'll get some when I pick up yet two more scripts.

    Enjoy the holiday!

Happy Canada Day! Your dinner plans sound fabulous, Janet. Bummer it is pouring rain here as well, which will put a damper on Canada Celebrations for sure. Den is off today for the holiday but we aren't doing anything. My stomach has really been acting up and I am not in the greatest mood. I just thought I would drop in and say hi as I have not been feeling very talkative.

Good luck at the doctor today, Laurie.

Jezabel sauce sounds awesome, Tina! a good idea to pick up chicken for salads and soups. I forgot to ask if Lola has been spayed yet? I remember they canceled the first appointment she had and can't remember if she has had that done yet?

Sorry to hear you all have been sick again, Shona:(

No idea idea what we will have for dinner. It will be something quick and easy or Den will do the cooking.

    Wishing everyone a great day!

Good Luck at your Dr.'s appointment Laurie! Shepherd's Pie sounds yummy. A good meal for here today, it being so gray and rainy.
Oh dear @ Molly and Lola not feeling well today Tina. Hope they get better quick.Your dinner sounds lovely.
"Happy Birthday" to your Dad Marie! 85! That's awesome! :) Ugh on 111 degrees. I couldn't take it. It's 18C/64F here at the moment.
Really sorry to hear your stomach is giving you a hard time Joce. :( Have a good relaxing day and I hope you feel better as the day goes on.
Time to hop in the shower. I made Jim and I soft boiled eggs with toast for breakfast. They were yummy. I've reduced some Balsamic vinegar and made the Watermelon Feta salad, the cream cheese nests and also set my dinner table. It's missing something though and looks a little empty. Will have to ponder for what to add. I have Canada Flag cotton placemats, Canada Day napkins, two white and a red pillar candles, a big bouquet of red and white flowers and then four little mini Canadian flags that have suction cups on the bottom so I put them at the top of everyone's place setting. Wish I had some little paper Canadian flags I could sprinkle around to fill in the bare spots. :)

I'm going to cook the chicken anyway, but I'm trying to lobby Olivia to a meal out at the Brick and Mortar. I'm on the third batch of towels from the clean up. Lola is snuggled into my pillow. Molly and Charlie are canoodling. We have a nest of bluejays in the oak, raising heck right now. I can't see the threat but they are noisy!

I'm hungry. An Instant breakfast will tide me over.

The Brick and Mortar sounds MARVELOUS Tina! Bluejays are noisy alright. They talk about everything! I saw a baby blue jay out in the tree this morning. They always look so silly as they're just as big as the adults but they flutter their wings and open their beaks just like real babies crying. :)
Just put the madeleines in the oven. Hope they turn out. I've never really ever done anything like that before. Have the Game Hens marinating as well as the Sangria fruit marinating in brandy. :) Next up the Spinach salad and cleaning berries for dessert.

Didn't realize the madeleines were the consistency of a sponge cake! I was expecting a biscuit. LOL. Tastes good though.

Hi all! Happy Canada Day!! Wow, what a nice spread you have going on Janet, I'm so sure your guest will be very impressed!

    Yum on Shepards Pie Laurie!

Too bad you have some sick doggies on your hands Tina :( Yum on Jezebel sauce, I have heard of it before (probably from you) but didn't have a clue what was in it.

Happy birthday to your Dad, Marie! Wow you have some hot weather!

I really hope your stomach lets up on you Joce :( Hope you feel better soon :)

Have had a LONG day. Did the work out and swim lessons and went to Lowe's to get mulch and to the pet store to get Caiden's fish (did I mention he got a fish for his birthday?) some little plants to put in his tank. Came home and got out and started to trim and pull back my purple hull pea plants that are going over the trellis's and fence and invading into my neighbors yards. They are tough plants to get back through the fence so I had to just got some and let them fall on the other side :\ For lunch we finally made it through all of our leftovers. Have some cleaning to do since my mom will be coming to get the kiddos in the morning as well Bri's friends mom who is letting her daughter Chloe go with them. Dinner tonight is pork chops, green beans and not sure what else. Hope everyone is having a nice day!

Happy Canada Day my fellow Canuckians!
Your menu sounds great Janet, those cream cheese nests sound good!
Laurie, my Physio recommended some ankle wraps, she gave me an online store but of course it's Canadian. I'm sure a Physio type web site will have some options.
Boo on the sick dogs Tina. Mine have been that way too, both of them eating a lot of grass and getting sick, I wonder if it's from change of weather? I haven't changed their food or anything? Not fun to clean up, hope they feel better soon!
Wholly Smokes that's hot Marie! I wouldn't want to cook in that heat either, hope you get some cooler weather soon!
Sorry you're not feeling good Joce, take care.
Busy Busy Michelle! We have a fish tank too, started with a small tank with one fish to a 40 gallon tank with 20 fish, lol. I love them though, peaceful, it does take time to cycle your tank but if just have goldfish it's a lot easier to take care of.
We just had burgers for dinner. I finally feel I bit better today, the ulcers on my tonsil have gone down a bit from the antibiotics. Pete just took the kids to the water park, so I have some peace and quiet, ahhh.
    Goodnight everyone!
