International Coffee Day-Monday

  • notyourmomma 9 years ago
Fred is brewing a pot now! I've been craving a cup since 4:00 a.m. The overnight news team on ABC had a barista discussing the best way to brew. Fresh ground is best. Do not keep your beans in the freezer or refrigerator. Moisture is bad. Cool and dark storage is best. The best water temperature for brewing is 185 degrees. Most home coffeemakers only reach 170 degrees which is why coffee tastes better out. I did see a method for a cold brew that is concentrated and you add hot water to enjoy your cup. McDonalds, Krispy Kreme and Dunkin Donuts are giving out free coffee today. Tim Horton's is offering a $1.00 a cup special.

I'm doing the bills and then going back to bed for a nap. My leg is still swollen and the blood pressure is elevated.

Best wishes for a quick recovery for Rachel, Laurie. Sorry she could not do her walk. Hopefully the meds will work fast. Nice dinner.

Janet, I'm glad you had a nice afternoon. Wonder what made Costco so busy? Ha ha on the former customer. Good to know they miss you at the hardware store.

Michelle, we have a Quaker Steak and Lube close to us. Olivia and I used to get a bucket of wings on the way home from her skating competitions. It was either a consolation bucket to drown our sorrows or a celebration bucket for a win. Either way, we like Quaker Steak and Lube a lot. Fred is a burger and onion ring fan.

Have not heard from Olivia and I'm a bit anxious, but hopefully she is only sleeping in this morning.

Have a cup of joe and make it a great day.

Morning Tina! I enjoy a good cup of coffee. I do keep my ground coffee in the fridge. I used to grind beans fresh each morning in a little coffee grinder but don't anymore but we do buy very good quality fair trade beans that the shop grinds up for us when we purchase it. I've found the best cup of coffee comes from being made in a French Press. Benjamin is the ultimate coffee snob in our family. He could go on about all manner of coffee topics if asked. :) Ugh on starting your morning off doing bills. :( Have a good nap. You did a lot of work this weekend which I imagine translated to your swollen legs and elevated blood pressure. Hopefully with all that Investment cooking done you can now take it easier! Costco is always busy but I think even more so yesterday because it was Sunday. Love the 'celebration bucket' or 'consolation' bucket of chicken. :) So Liv did head to Alabama? Is she on her own or with Scotty? Love the coffee pics. :)
Not sure yet what I'm going to do for dinner. The weather is supposed to remain pretty nice this week so I will do some more grilling at some point.
    Wishing everyone a great day!

Morning! Well, I have been trying to cut back on caffeine, BUT I had to drink a cup of coffee on Coffee Day!! Yum, it was good too :) Lol at having an excuse, no matter what the outcome, to stop and get wings, love it! I'm sure Liv will call soon :)

Hi Janet! We keep our coffee in the fridge too, or freezer if there is room. I mainly use my Keurig though, but I do have a bag of Gourmet coffee beans someone gave to us in the fridge for “those days” when I know I'll need more than one cup of coffee :) I only like to use one K-cup a day, they are very expensive. Great that you have nice weather all week to look forward to! I need to check out our weather report...who knows :)

Got my work out in today, I mysteriously had a lot more energy this morning. Usually I am hating the entire thing and just wanting to quit after 10 minutes lol! I need a treadmill desperately. Making a grocery store run today, then have to stop by a different store to get Caiden's “special” juice (for his digestion) and then may stop by Target because he needs more athletic type shorts to wear to T-ball practices and to Gym classes. He's grown out of all his other one's :( (boo on him growing up). I thought this looked interesting for dinner, and I have some fresh chorizo!

    http://www.paleogirlskitchen.com/2013/06/california-burrito-bowl.html

Will make the kids corn dogs along with some of the sweet potato fries, since chorizo will be too spicy for them.

Morning Michelle! Good for you on your work out. You are inspiring I'll say that! :) Did the kids like that coconut water juice that you were going to try out on them? Have a good shop at Target. That burrito bowl recipe looks good but I'm not a huge sweet potato fan....unless they're in tempura batter. :)

Send some energy this way. - I could use some.

Went to the dentist office only to find out the appt. was next month. So we stopped for COFFEE and pancakes and bacon on the way home. McDonalds is giving away free coffee for breakfast, as we discovered when we stopped at one last week, fully expecting to pay for it. Pleasant surprise.

A.C. is galloping through the living room - kitchen - hallway. He is full of it this morning.
He just flew after Mel and leaped on him. Crazy cat! Had to take a break to let two bad kitties back in the living room. Wayne went out to check something in the storeroom and did NOT close the door. behind him, so A.C. made a mad dash. Mel followed more sedately and as soon as I showed myself in the doorway he flew back inside. A.C. trotted ahead of us meowing until he slowed enough for Wayne to nab him. Little brat!

Ref. Sunday's post, I was 22 when I got married, 24 when I got my drivers license! My first car was a '64 Chevy with no seat belts. I refused to drive the Firebird to learn in. My current car is a 2007 Nitro with 126,XXX miles on it. I love it. Wayne hates it.

The dust bunnies are taking over and somehow the broom is not coming on its own to take care of the flying dog-fur, so I better get up and do it myself. Should fire the broom fairy along with the dishwasher fairy - neither of them ever show up to work. LOL.

Hope you feel better, Tina. Hi Michelle and Janet.

I am in ultra slow motion today despite my good intentions! :)
Did decide on dinner. Will make our remaining three cobs of corn along with

Just got the steak in the marinade now.
Ugh on getting the Dentist appointment wrong Karen. I've done that. :( The Nitro is a cool vehicle. Don't know if I've actually seen one on the roads around here.

The sun is shining. The rain should roll in later. Fred heard from Olivia long after I went to bed. Scotty drove the whole way, she buckled herself in the back seat lying down??? I know she took a couple of pain killers before the drive, so hopefully she fell asleep.

My broom fairy is gone too. Fred aka dish fairy has been very busy this morning. Thank goodness.

Michelle, goodness on getting your work out in already. More power to you!

Karen, I think the McDonalds free coffee is a good deal. I like their coffee. Oh no, on the wrong date for the appointment. I've been there and done that. LOL on the kitty circus.

Janet, so Benjamin is a barista at heart? I love a good rich coffee. I used to drink it with cream and sugar and now I like it black. I used to get the Gevalia beans monthly and grind them each morning, but I cut it out for finances sake.

Fred is requesting red meat. NO turkey, no casserole, no chicken. A brisket is defrosting and I can slow cook this afternoon. Simple a package of onion soup mix and a bottle of Heinz chili sauce. Creamed spinach on the side. Mashed potatoes, of course. A slow cooker is a good thing.

Hugs to all. I'm going to put my leg back up for a bit longer.

Glad Liv has been spotted and she's safe and sound Tina. :) I've heard of Gevalia beans but never had it. Your brisket sounds wonderful. As does the whole meal and yes, hurray for crock pots! :)

    Hi all!

Been a busy morning so far, Rick left early to install the big insulated door with glass and an opener..he also got a call last night at 6:30 pm, someone has broken springs up the road from us, I'll go with him on that job..I'm really good at handing him the new springs while he's on the ladder:) I guess their springs have been broken for a few days..so she decided to call Sunday evening? Oh well, we don't mind..I found it funny though:) A job is a job!

I had to run to the bank to make a deposit then to Skyway Feed for some kitty supplies, made out an invoice for tomorrow's job, cleaned the kitchen floor & vacuumed the carpets..just put some potatoes on for Maries Potato Salad.we'll have chicken and corn on the cob to go with...now waiting to call our accountant..he's on another line and leaves for lunch at noon..I have a quick question to ask him re: sales tax..he loves when I call..LOL

I need to get him on the phone, I'll check back here in a bit..hope everyone is having the best MONDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Marie! Hope Rick makes out okay with that big door. Sounds like you've been busy running around holding down the fort. NOW YOU HAVE ME CRAVING POTATO SALAD! Badly. Perhaps tomorrow? Your whole dinner sounds excellent. Good luck with the call to the accountant.

Hi, Marie. Good luck with the accountant. Busy day of chores. Why do people expect a business to be open on a Sunday night? Love the potato salad. Fred is over any mayo salad after, tuna, egg and macaroni this past week. LOL I didn't think that would ever happen. Give yourself a break today, too, dear one.

Liv called and said it has been raining non stop. She sat in a hot tub for a good long while trying to ease her hurt behind. Bit of a bust of a trip, no fun on the beach because of the weather. Oh well.

Bobby Flay is making pumpkin cranberry scones. Darn. He is an evil man.

Janet, super nice dinner planned. A cilantro lime marinated steak makes me think of chimichurri. My favorite meat sauce these days. The tart herby flavor is soooo good.

I'm going back down for a nap. Once the eyesight gets this blurry, time to rest. My bloodwork came back with some anomalies. I see the doctor on the 8th to discuss. Let's hope we can clear some up some of the issues.

Janet, I have yet to even get the coconut water drinks in the fridge lol! It was bulging full and I thought later I'll just squeeze in as many as possible and that later has not happened yet :P Lol, I have to admit, tempura sweet potatoes is probably one of my favorite ways to have them! That chimichurri steak looks awesome, I wonder if I have it pinned, I'll check so I don't pin it twice :)

Ouch on going to the dentist on the wrong day Karen. At least you got breakfast and coffee out of it though! You have some wild kitties on your hands today!

Lol, at Olivia, Tina. I'm sure she managed to get some sleep! I haven't cooked a brisket in forever. Your dinner sounds easy enough, but delicious!

Hi Marie, Awww, your such the little helper :P You were a busy girl this morning, hope you catch that guy before lunch, good luck!

I totally forgot the bug guy was coming today! Anyway, I made it home just in time so that he could also do the inside. We have had a few critter sitings inside, mostly small spiders and bugs. I did rush around the house picking up this and that while he was finishing up the outside. I know he probably doesn't care what my house looks like, but I do! Plus you never know when there could be a bra or something in the bedroom I overlooked!

DW going. Half of kitchen counters are cleaned and shiny. The other half is NOT. I am taking a quick break while the vinegar brews thru the coffee pot, then I will pour it in again and run it through one more time. Maybe even put another couple of cups of clean vinegar through afterwards. It takes forever for coffee to brew so it must be clogged badly. We have HARD water.

We are going to bring Wayne's sister down next week so have to plan some cool places to take her. We would like to go to Herman, MO for the wineries but I need to check their hours etc. because it is past the grape season. I will send some watermelon jelly and Pear Jam home with her. The other residents in her apt. building are hesitant to accept what she tells about her brother in Missouri, we had to send a photo of the blond raccoon before they would believe it. Wish we could get one of the BEAR (in the distance, of course).

I would pick up a pomegranate for the Peach Pomegranate Salad but I doubt she would eat the seeds, either. Very picky eaters. LOL.

The sun room dudes are here fixing a few "problems" that needed addressing. We are happy with 95 % of their work, and they are very good at fixing it. I would highly recommend the company.

I think the vinegar has finished draining through so will have to get back to work in the kitchen. The counters are not cleaning themselves, unfortunately.

LOl Janet..You know, I'm not that big of a fan of potato salad..unless it's someone else's:) Everyone's food always tastes better:) Yes, he'll be fine with that big door..I always worry just a teeny bit..but there really is no reason for me to worry..not like he hasn't ever done this before..it's just that the 18' doors (especially when their insulated with a glass panel)are sooooo long and I feel they are a little hard to handle with one person..he doesn't seem to think so:) I'm just a worry wart:)

Tina, I do hope you get some answers on how to make you all better when you discuss everything with your Dr on the 8th..
I also hope Liv is on the mend..that must be so very painful..I haven't hurt my tailbone in ages, but I sure remember it hurt like hell!

Michelle, yes, I'm what you call a "Jack Of All Trades" I can do just about anything! LOL

Karen, those darn cats anyhoo! Your house sounds like mine..they just act crazy for no reason sometimes! Oh wow, brought back memories having a car without seatbelts!
Cool on the Nitro! I drive an older SUV with lots of miles on it..although, we have just about replaced everything on the darn thing..I could have had a NEW SUV with the $$$ we have thrown into that thing..oh well, it runs great, looks like new and has been a good vehicle..

I know, I know, I'm not napping yet. The thunder started and then the dogs jumped on me and I said, "okay, I'll stay and pet all of you." I have a dog on each foot, one on each chair arm. Ay yi yi. Is it possible to be jealous of a dog's eyelashes? I swear Charlie Brown's lashes are longer, fuller and darker than mine! So not fair.

My dinner is extra easy since the potatoes are 'Simpy Potatoes' chive and sour cream BOGO from Publix and the creamed spinach is Seabrook Farms frozen in the bag to reheat. Tyler LOVED creamed spinach and I found it cheaper to buy it than fix from fresh because I had to buy 5 bags of fresh to feed the family once it cooks down. It is one of the few frozen veggies that is much more economical than fixing from fresh. I turned the brisket to high and added a splash of Dr. Pepper/soy sauce to the pot. It looked dry and it didn't look like we would be eating before midnight at the rate it was cooking on slow.

Karen, how nice of you to plan ahead for the family. I am sure they will be pleased as punch with your hospitality. I will have to commend Fred for cleaning the counters today. I did have to go behind him and scrub the sink. And rearrange where he put the pots and pans, he shoves where ever he thinks they fit and I can't ever find them again. I have to do it behind his back or else, he would be insulted and never clean again!!! LOL I do appreciate his help. We had a whole house water softener system added because we had horrible hard water too. They install a coil on the main water line and it supposedly reduces the deposits. It has not made anything easier to clean. I swear it doesn't work for the money invested, but then a technician will come out and produce a water sample that indicates it is working. Sleight of hand I tell ya! He has to be swapping the samples. I do love my white vinegar and baking soda for drains.

Okay, I have to rest a bit. I'm typing by Braille. Hopefully this is legible.

Tina, your braille typing worked wonders.

I posted a couple of new recipes today. One was the pork roast from the other day. I figure if I ever want to make it again I would have to post it somewhere or I would forget how to make it.
    Poor doggies.
Wayne does help clean also. He is better at cleaner the black stove top (NEVER will I get a black stove top again) because he has the patience to really go at it. My attempts leaves streaks and I could just scream.

We are considering a softener but still have not made up our minds. I don't want salt-run systems and the idea of us running bags of whatever up and down stairs just is not too ideal.

I love my Nitro. It was bought when they gave the lifetime warranty bumper to bumper so I will never get rid of it forever and forever. Barring some sort of accident!

Got to go. We have a fire call!

Too bad the weather didn't co-operate for Liv's trip Tina. :( I hear you on the pumpkin scones. Both on TV cooking shows and of course now on Pinterest it's Pumpkin Everything Everywhere. So makes me want to bake something but again....dratted non-sweet tooth husband! :) My Chimichurri sauce is really liquidy. Might have been too heavy handed with the olive oil. Think maybe I'll try add another handful of cilantro and parsley. Crossing my fingers for your appointment on the 8th. Fred deserves big kudos for doing up the dishes and cleaning the counters today. That's nice he's giving you a hand when you're under the weather.Go rest!
Marie, if I haven't already thanked you for this I will now....back in the winter when I made Rick's Cioppino I'm sure you told me that you kept a parsley plant growing in your garden? Am I right or dreaming? And I thought it would be a really nice addition so I did plant one this spring and I've had so much fun just running out and harvesting some whether it be for recipes or just for a pretty garnish. Thank you for inspiring me!
You know Michelle that Pinterest will give you a 'message' straight away if you already have a pin pinned right? When I first started on it it didn't do that and with my horrid memory I had sooooo many duplicate pins, but then eventually they introduced that function and I LOVE it! :) LOL @ the bra. I left a pr. of black lacy underwear on the floor in our bedroom one morning underneath a furnace thermostat that a repair man came to fix later on that day. Verra embarrassing. :) Jim noticed it after the repair man had left. LOLOL.
I should really clean my coffee maker this week too Karen. Thanks for the reminder! I can't remember when I last did it. That's fun Wayne's sister is coming for a visit. Where is she from?
Took a new cleaning solution and a scrub brush to two recycled plastic lawn chairs that had been getting a mildew build up on them. They look 70% better but still not as good as new. Did some other odd jobs outside. It's a lovely day. A tad cool.

LOL on the underthings accidentally left out for the tradesman to see. I warned Olivia to clean up her room after the bathroom leak.......suffice to say mommy was shocked to see the under-pinnings that were in the plumbers way. I just had to swallow hard and go forward. I can blush for my child as much as anyone.
    LOL

The brisket is NOT done. We might not eat until 10 tonight, if is not fork tender and I'm not happy. My fault for not putting it in the pot earlier. I can nap until dinner, right?

Lol Tina I buy those simply potatoes, Rachel ate a whole tray for lunch today. She was sent home sick by the school nurse. No fever but chills and pain. This is a bad UTI. I think she may have a bit of a bladder infection going on too. I had to leave work to go get her. Went to beccas soccer game after work. They won it was a good game.
On workers finding things, once my very conservative aunt was getting a bed delivered and when they picked up the old bed. You don't want to even know what she had forgotten underneath. I laugh every time I think of it. But the best way to describe it or how my mom described it. "A boyfriend in a box".
I made the Jewish cure all for Rachel Chicken soup for dinner.

    Hi all!

His sister is from Illinois. Her husband passed away several years ago. She enjoys coming for a visit but has no desire to ever live in a rural setting!

The fire was a small runaway trash fire - it covered maybe 30 yards each side of the burn. Unfortunately it came within 4 feet of his house, so the owner was very relieved to see the brush truck arrive. Took no time to put it out, but a while to douse the trash pile to make sure it didn't reignite.

LOL on the frilly underwear left for repairmen to notice.

Get some rest Tina. I'm sure the brisket will taste just as good at 10! You are not the ony one who has misjudged the state of the meat. LOL. I made baked chicken thighs recently and it like to take forever for them to get done. Guess they were not as thawed as I thought.

I still am navigating Pinterest slowly, but have found some cool stuff. I'm hooked on essential oils and herbal medicine information.

I put on a frozen Schwaan's beef and gravy. I think I have some potatoes somewhere that would go well with it.

    Take care everyone. See you.
