Maple Sugar Monday

  • notyourmomma 9 years ago
I'm making waffles with maple sugar. Liv is home for breakfast. We have errands, bank, SS office, car title, insurance co. I figure we should eat something. I can't stay buried under the covers and hope it goes away.

Good luck to our members in the path of the blizzard. Be safe.

I want chili again? What is the crazy chili craving?

Good Morning Tina! :) So pleased to see you first thing this morning. When I saw the thread title I was guessing that it was Joce posting....thinking of Maple Syrup season approaching in our part of the country....but I was wrong. :) NOM on Waffles with Maple Sugar. Great way to start the day. I often get a Chili craving in the winter time as it's a good filling comfort food to keep the cold at bay but that can't be your excuse. :) Good luck with all the errands. Nice pics of your house. I like all the globes!
It's is a bright beautiful morning out today with loads of sunshine. We heard the Coyotes last night even with the window closed. They sang for quite a long time which is unususal as we usually only hear them howl and yip a bit and then pass by. I'm going to count my turkeys this morning and make sure everyone is accounted for. :)
No huge plans today. I need to finish reading a book ("My Beloved World", a memoir by Sonia Sotomayor") for an upcoming Book Chat. Jim and I will head down shortly for our stint on the exercise equipment. Groan.
    I'm going to try
Bacon Baked Chicken With Creamy Mushroom Sauce
for dinner this evening. Just have to think of sides.
Sending good wishes for that storm of yours tomorrow Laurie. Keep us tuned how you make out. Is Frank feeling better today? Your sausage tortellini dish sounded yummy.
I copied out the ingredients for Keni's Swedish Meatballs Marie, so I can make them maybe this week sometime. So this next door neighbour who is burning leaves isn't the same woman who had the barking dogs a few months ago is it?
Joce....you doing okay? Sending good wishes for speedy recovering.
Wishing everyone a most excellent day.

Marie.....I just learned it was "National Peanut Brittle" Day today. And whenever I hear "Peanut Brittle" I think of you! :) Never got around to making any over Christmas. Darn.

Your waffles sound yummy Tina, my kids will be over in a second :) We have chili cravings about every 2 weeks, not sure why either! I love globes, especially old one's. I have one that my dad just gave me recently from his house when I was growing up. Caiden broke it in a week. Go figure.

Hi Janet, lol at the coyotes and the turkeys, yes, count them! I see Joce has talked you into making Bacon Baked Chicken With Creamy Mushroom Sauce...bet it will be delicious!!

Not such a busy day today for us, but we do have a busy evening. I am going to pick Bri up from school and take her straight to play practice which is at 4:30-5:30. From there will be dance, which we will be VERY late. They will just have to understand. Got a call from Briauna's new softball coach and we have a meeting this Thursday. He wants to try and get the practices on weekends, which will be perfect since it won't interact with any activities we have already. Still don't know Caidens T-ball schedule yet. I see my next couple months being insane! Pulled out some chicken thighs to make

That's too bad that your Dad's globe got broken Michelle. :( Good luck with all your activities this evening. Yum on your Enchilada Soup. I'm going to make a small batch of Chicken Noodle soup for our lunch.
Just read on the news that our Ottawa Airport has already cancelled six flights to Boston and New York based on the threat of the upcoming storm. Hold tight Laurie!

    Good morning everyone!
Ahhhh, all the kids at school finally! Sophia was home all last week sick, it's great to half some "me" time today.
Good to see you Tina :) What a gorgeous garden picture! I think of Chili as a soul food, heart warming kind of comfort food. :) Good luck on all the errands today, yum on the waffles!!
That's funny about the coyotes Janet. Last night was the first night since moving here that we heard them so close. They were so loud, singing away, sounded like a huge pack of them. It wasn't even a full moon! There must be something going on, lol, and we're a couple thousand miles away from you! Pete thought they must have made a kill near the duck pond.?
That slow cooker soup looks good Michelle, I love slow cooker recipes! Monday is brownie night, we always seem scrambled trying to get dinner and Sophia out the door on time. But gosh, you are very busy!! Good luck :)
Tonight is leftovers, Slavinkeni, I'll probably make some more mashed potatoes to go with it as they were eaten up last night! Creamy Wasabi And Chive Mashed Potatoes
Yikes, I haven't heard about this storm out there! Stay safe!
    Have a great day everyone!

Morning Shona! Fun that you heard Coyotes last night as well! Your Slavinkeni and Wasabi Potatoes sounded really yummy. I'm going to keep my eye out for that Inglehoffer mustard you mentioned. Glad Sophia is feeling better this week. Enjoy your day.

Hunker down all you in storm land. Our temp today should be around 56, no chance of precip until Saturday and then they are waffling between rain and snow, but not much. Of course that is the Sunday Wayne stays over, so if the weather is bad I just stay at home.

Tina, glad you are up and about. There will be a lot of details to take care of in the next few days. Waffles sound yummy, and I join the chili craving crowd!

Too bad about the globe, Michelle. I remember storing some items I treasured for a few years until our daughter was older. Now we just have to be sure the cats can't get at them - LOL.

    Hi to Shona and Janet!

Tina, Now you have me thinking about my waffle iron again. Really nice pics of the house! Good luck with all your errands today.

Laurie, Try and stay safe inside during that blizzard! They will probably close schools and tell people to stay off of the Hwy's and not travel anyways at least.

Janet, Your trifle pic in your avatar looks beautiful. Glad you were able to convince your GF to take it off your hands for you. Did she get a giggle out of the Toe Jam Trifle name? Weird about both you and Shona hearing coyotes last night! It is the first quarter of the moon, I wonder if that had anything to do with it? Enjoy your book and the rest of your day.

Michelle, You are a busy one again today! Too bad about the globe your Dad gave you:(

Shona, Good to hear Sophia is feeling better and is back in school today and is probably looking forward to going to Brownies tonight.

Karen, Funny you storing things away from your daughter and now worrying about the cats getting them:)

We are having leftover pot roast and I am making hot roast beef sandwiches for dinner. Easy for me to do.

    Hi Karen!
Hi Joce! Yes, my girlfriend and her husband got a big chuckle out of the "Toe Jam Trifle" and my girlfriend's husband said that he'd love to find another jar of the Toe Jam to give as a gift to his Podiatrist. :) LOL! Yum on your Hot Beef sandwiches.
My Soup is smelling ah-mazing. I have an episode of "The Great British Bake off" to watch so I may have lunch in front of the TV. :)

That is 2/3rds of Fred's globes. He has 4 more scattered about. The oldest is dated 1926. Most are late 50's and some 70's. The wall has the money framed from every country he ever visited. We have a silk map from WWII framed as well. Quite the collection. When the fire department came to lift me from the floor, they were intrigued with the wall of FD stuff. I said, "Get me up to a chair and I'll tell you about it" We have FHS Jr,'s Fire hat and graduate picture from 1931. Fred's replica fire truck from 1949. And a copper fire extinguisher, undetermined date. We also have a Gettysburg era anvil and canonball.

Shona, so happy Sophia is better. Coyotes howling would be beautiful to hear just once.
Chili IS soul food. I found a lb. of ground beef. Now, if I could find some beans.

Janet, your dinner sounds yummy. And chicken noodle soup. I hope your flock is intact.
    Brava on the treadmill.

Michelle, your schedule will be FULL. I remember those days and wonder how I did it. Enchilada soup sounds very heartwarming.

Karen, we had to come home....I ran out of steam. The line out of the SS office made me quake. Rescheduled my MRI for Thursday. Hit the bank, the tag office and county clerk's office.

Dinner will be hamburger something. Chili if I can find the fixin's. Cornbread, too. Chopped veggie salad. of course.

Very cool on the globes Tina and all the other interesting artefacts in your house. I love stuff like that. Gives a home 'character' as opposed to being decorated with all the silly things you see at Pier One or Crate & Barrel or whatever. I actually did only get 18 turkeys at the feeder today and there were 19 here yesterday. I won't raise the red flag yet as sometimes one lurks behind Jim's shed or is late to arrive. I'll give it a day or two. Your dinner sounds yummy and I hope you manage to find all the ingredients for your Chili. Sloppy Joe's are an option too?
Havent' got any of my book read but maybe will make myself a cup of Hot Chocolate and snuggle in. The soup was wonderful. Had a good chat with my Mom on the phone this morning. I've been posting old family photos on my Facebook page every Thursday (Throwback Thursdays) and I came across probably my oldest one for this coming week. Didn't know much about one of the people in the photo so Mom was able to fill in a few blanks in the family tree for me which was lovely.

Tina, the globes and the story about the fireman's comments are amazing. The SS office here schedules appointments - your local office might, also, so you could skip the waiting time in line. Hamburger is a cook's best friend. Chili - goulash - Spanish rice - spaghetti - plain old burgers - Janet's suggestion of sloppy Joe's! I have ground venison, black beans (canned), onion, green peppers, frozen cherry tomatoes and / or canned diced tomatoes -- time to substitute and concoct chili!

Janet, I guess coyotes do feed on turkeys, but usually go after mice and smaller game. The ones around us are skittish and take off if they see you, but a friend has lost lambs to a particularly aggressive pack that killed her 2 great Pyrenees dogs. We had a big old hen turkey come into the yard every day. Homer has brought deer legs, a dead rooster, even deceased raccoons, into the yard. His escapades were NOT appreciated.

Hi Joce. The cats are worse than the kids - they can jump pretty high. Well, Mel (the orange one in my avatar) can. A.C. is so lazy and fat he probably couldn't jump higher than the kitchen counter. I outlawed them from the sun room so we display special or fragile items there. If any rambunctious children are coming, I put the breakables up.

I don't know who knocks them off Karen, but we have had a couple of turkeys that have been totally eviscerated. All that's left was feathers. We also had a small deer taken down just behind Jim's shed that disappeared within a couple of days. Apart from coyotes I'm not aware of another predator here that could do that? So is it Chili you're making for dinner this evening? How's Miss Kitty today?

Hey everyone. We are in a state of emergency. Work is cancelled. Even Dunkin Donuts is closed tomorrow and target all the schools. They are predicting 2 feet of snow for my area.
Saw the podiatrist today. Good news I do not need surgery but I am getting some inserts, my issue is actually bursitis not the bone. Due to the fact that I step down at an angle and one leg is longer than the other.
It was a fend for yourself night for dinner, I had cereal

Stay safe Laurie. We're thinking of you. Hope to hear from you tomorrow to see how things are going. Glad to hear neither you, Rachel and Becca don't have to go anywhere and does Frank still seriously have to go in to the hospital? Very pleased to hear that you don't need surgery. Can they do something to make Bursitis go away? (One of my legs is longer than the other too! How funny!)
Joce, that Bacon Mushroom Chicken recipe is about to come out of the oven and smells heavenly.
Night all. Sleep sweet aka Kimmer.

Coyotes could take down turkeys. People around us who breed goats or sheep generally have Great Pyrenees dogs for protection. Our friends who raise sheep bought two Anatolian shepherd dogs to guard their livestock, after an aggressive coyote pack killed their 2 G.P.'s. Our game cameras have recorded coyotes, some in great shape and one full of mange. We have not decided if it was a wolf or coyote on the latest one. It was huge. Are there any wolves in the area? Conservation insists we have none, but both of us, and others in the area, have seen them.

We have a flock of turkeys hanging around, but, except for the one hen, they tend to stay away from the house area. If I could upload a video, I have a really cool one of the birds flying down from the tree to eat the corn left for the deer. So cool. I like them and they are economically useful critters. We don't hunt them.

Miss Kitty is O.K. -- she was happy, since I gave them leftover turkey and she demolished her portion quickly. Mel and A.C. are beside me in the recliner. Mel was so jealous when he saw A.C. climbing up that he rushed over ASAP.

I concocted a chili recipe tonight. Had to add a bit of catsup and 2 tblsp. of sugar because of the heat - some would prefer the hotter version, but we are sort of non-hot-or-spicy-recipe people. Suffice it to say I will not use Rotell tomatoes with chilies in the next batch.
