Monday Mayhem

Everyone braced for the final push for Christmas? I have to finalize my brunch grocery list. Skippy is going to a convalescence vet. I'm calling for stronger pain meds for my hand. Liv is working and will make her cakes tonight so we can soak them with glaze. Dinner to be determined.

hugs all! If I rally for a "trunk" cake, instead of a bunny as represented in image, I'm going to make a pink marzipan pig.

Morning Tina! You are a stronger woman than I mowing forward with Christmas brunch with a badly injured hand! Indeed 'STRONGER PAIN PILLS PLEASE"! All the cakes look delicious. I'm partial to the Buche de Noel as I made one one year in French class in High school. The trunk cake is adorable and if I got to choose the animal I'd make a squirrel. :)
Marie, I did amend the Gingerbread cookie recipe so you're good to go next year. :)
The deer blinds we see occasionally around are all up in trees. LOL @ the Deer stands complete with recliners Karen. :) Did you see anything on the Game cards? Do they play out on your computer? I'm sure I've mentioned my sister in law lives up in Anchorage Alaska. She likes it a lot. She enjoys photography so has a lot of salmon, bear and moose pictures. :)
Jim and I are supposed to go for our work out pre: Breakfast and then once we're ready to roll I want to drop off a package of Gingerbread Men to the Hardware store that I used to manage. They hint a lot around this time of year that they need cookies. :) Then I want to go to Chapters and get a book for Jim, to a baby store to get a present for my niece who just announced she's pregnant and then off to Almonte, a small town about 45 min. from us to do any last Christmas shopping and stocking stuffers. Our reward is a nice lunch out somewhere. :)
    I'm thinking of making
    Indian Pea And Potato Pancakes
for dinner since it shouldn't be too hard to throw together after a day out shopping. Another Sens Game on tonight. The last 'til after Christmas.
Watched the movie "The Neighbours" last night. It reminds me of "Animal House" back when I was a teen to a certain extent. Good for a silly laugh.
Wishing everyone a great day. Joce...thinking of you.

Janet, you are kind to former co-workers to bring cookies. I have been back twice since leaving - no real reason, just over busy with home / remodeling aftermath / carriage house stuff / etc. Enjoy lunch out today.

Tina, how is the hand? Wayne takes tramadol (? sp) for his back pain, although he has not had to take it nearly so much since starting with the chiropractor. For a one-handed woman, you have a lot of cooking to do! You are a better woman than I. What is a convalescence vet? I assume it is one where the animals are kept long-term for serious stuff. This area of the Ozarks does not have such luxuries, but our vet has kept one or two of our critters for long-term for similar reasons.

When my hand was broken, it was a real trip learning to handle the new routines. It took several days before the swelling went down enough to do surgery, then it really only hurt if I didn't have it held up and it was pointing downward. They gave me pain pills but I never needed them -- followed the advice to take them before it hurt, but then decided I'd chance it and stopped. Hate painkillers with a passion, but realize they are a necessity at times. Plus anything with codeine knocks me for a loop. I am NOT a happy camper or someone you would want to be anywhere near when they try me on codeine, real or fake!

The hot water is dripping badly in the shower so we turned it off last night and back on this morning so I could do some laundry. It will be turned off later today - when I HOPE his buddy comes over so they can get the parts to fix it. I hate not getting a shower, but that is the way it goes.

Plans are to eventually replace the shower unit and sink and toilet . A good paint job and new flooring should complete the bathroom redo - we are not going to have a super exotic, high priced, overkill bath. It will not rival the kitchen - LOL.

Cabinets over the washer / drier will replace the shelves on the back porch so it will be cleaner longer (bad dust / dirt problem with our road.) And hopefully the two sets of steel shelving can MOVE away to the garage to make enough room to shift LITTER BOXES over so it is a bit nicer to walk back there. Aargh!

Have to run into the fort to get my RX filled - they sent it to the main pharmacy so it will be a long wait - I must remember to give the new nurse the fax number so they can send it to the PX pharmacy -- so much less hassle and only take a few minutes as opposed to up to an hour. The nurse our old Dr. had has transferred to another section and the new one is also nice, but not like "Nurse Becky."

Mmmmm....I haven't had scalloped potatoes in forever. Now you've got me craving them Tina. Please rest up today and take care of yourself.
I was always anti-pills especially pain pills myself Karen until I suffered my first bout of kidney stones and then I was literally begging for morphine. Now if I hurt, I take something. No more fooling around. Hope you get your water problem fixed up asap. We get a lot of dust in the house ourselves, in summer through the screens, pollen etc. from the woods and in winter, dust from the pellets and wood stove. I probably should have chosen a lighter colour for our hardwood flooring as the darker ones we picked sure show everything! Good luck getting your Prescription filled quickly.
    We're off.

my hand is excruciatingly painful.....just took off brace and the no stick bandage is stuck to wound. it is puffy red and oozing. gross. karen your script went astray and my antibiotic and anti-inflammatory script went to a wal-mart in south carolina. hopefully once i get the antibiotic in me the pain will lesson a bit. I'm trying to keep it elevated.

Skippy has to have a drain in her shoulder and they were concerned about tooth damage. She tried to eat her way through a fence to go after another dog a long time ago (she is a feisty bitch alpha dog) and damaged her teeth. They thought she damaged her teeth biting charlie. Anyway she may need some extractions. She is probably coming home in the morning.

lol on the blind with parking and recliners!!

I'm going to have the store make the fruit salad! And fred will assemble the casserole.
Liv is baking her own cakes from my directions.

Morning! I LOVE the piggy in the tree trunk! How adorable Tina! Hope you get some stronger meds. I just feel so bad for you...what timing! Good for you getting help out with the Christmas food!

I bet the hardware store will definitely appreciate those gingerbread men :) Good luck finishing up your Christmas shopping today!! Enjoy your lunch out, and Indian Pea And Potato Pancakes looks SO GOOD! I have it bookmarked, but I don't remember it lol! Will be making soon!

Hi Karen :) Painkillers make me sick, Sick SICK, so I try not to ever take them either. Crossing fingers for you that you can get your water turned back on and get that shower you want! Good luck getting the RX filled, hope it doesn't take too long!!

Leaving in an hour or 2 to pick up the kids and have our Christmas at my Mom's. Our Christmas's are spread over about a 3-4 day period. Lot's of driving around and lot's of eating lol :) For about 2 years now we have claimed Christmas day to be “Our day” so family has to either plan a different day to see us or they can swing by on the day if they want. I think it's working out great and helps out with the stress of having 4 families. Okay off to get ready, have a great day everyone!!

    Hi everyone.

Back from getting my RX. Stopped at the commissary and now all I have to get for Christmas day is a pkg of rolls and a cheesecake - forgot the rolls and the ones at the commissary looked ragged, no expiration date, no manufacture date, lots of preservatives. Not what I want. So tomorrow will have to stop somewhere and pick up the last of the "stuff." I bought a small pkg. of Lebkuchen so daughter could have some -- the big tins we used to buy in Germany had cost in the mid thirty dollar range, but are $125 plus in the stores this year. Needless to say, we will not be getting one at that price.

Went to go move the wild boar meat into a bowl of salted water to eek out the gamey taste. --- but had to put it in the sink -- my largest bowl was not big enough. And this was NOT the one from the 200 lb. boar, but from a bit smaller pig. It is in the sink in salted water to thaw. Maybe I should have kept the liner from the defunct turkey roaster -- it would have been the perfect size.

Have a good Christmas at your Mom's, Michelle. We used to do Thanksgiving at one set and Christmas at the other. It worked out well and since they were in opposite directions in 2 different states, it was the only way to go.

Hope you feel better and get your meds, Tina. Antibiotics should help on the swelling.

The squirrel is running across the roof after acorns. He is so funny!

Joe Cocker has died at 70. Aw. RIP https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRzKUVjHkGk

Karen your squirrel has been a busy beaver. Brining the boar haunch sounds like a great way to reduce the funk. I had to google Lebkuchen. ouch on that price.

Marie, since I know my hand is infected, it is causing a lot of the pain. Like Karen said once the antibiotics get flowing the pain should ease up. Nice on the walkie talkies for Rick. The Frenchman's spaghetti sounds yummy.

Sending good wishes to Joce, please check-in m'dear.

I woke up from my nap listening to Martha making her mom's Polish mushroom barley soup. Those dried Polish mushrooms are hard to come by. I wonder if our new food emporium carries them. I know they have truffle butter that Ina uses all the time.

That would be nasty if pain killers make you sick Michelle. Are there some that don't or aren't as bad? Have a really lovely Christmas celebration with your Mom. I think it's great you declared Christmas to be a Home Day.
Sriracha Sausage Pizza Tina? Be still my beating heart. WOW that sounds delicious! Very sad to hear Joe Cocker passed away. I loved that song "With a little help from my friends". Was surprised it came out way back in '69! Ai yi yi! :) So you said "Once the antibiotics get flowing"....does that mean you did get them? Mushroom Barley soup sounds yummy. I saw some dried Polish mushrooms in a Deli last week and thought of you immediately. Truffle butter....sigh....
I think that's a great idea you had getting walkie talkies for Rick Marie. Spaghetti sounds very yummy.
Wow on the pricey Lebkuchen Karen. Have you ever tried to make it? I used to make some sort of German cookie that was kind of gingerbready way back when but can't remember the name now. Bet if I went digging I could find it.
I had a most lovely day. Bought a cute blankie, 3 little one-seys (How do you spell that?) with matching little hats and mitts for my niece's baby. How fun is that to buy baby clothes again. I can't wait to buy more once we know the sex. :) Had a lovely shop in Almonte and lunch at the Mill St. Crepe Company.
    http://millstreetcrepecompany.com/
Both Jim and I had the Croque Monsieur Crepe. He had his with Cauliflower soup (YUCK) and I had a lovely beet salad.
And I'm happy to report I AM ALL FINISHED MY CHRISTMAS SHOPPING! Every last bit including stocking stuffers. Feels good. I'm not usually this late. Now the rest of the week is pretty much snuggling in and enjoying the holidays.

    Hi all

Janet, the German Lebkuchen is different than our gingerbread due to some of the German spices that I can't find here. But I could probably make an almost-Lebkuchen. I just really liked the stuff we bought in Nurnberg while strolling thru their Kristkindlemarkt (? if I spelled in right?) a Christmas craft fair, sort of kind of, lots of vendors and ornaments and goodies to buy. That and heated Gluhwein (a type of mulled spiced wine available at Christmas time) made a cold winter day warm and toasty.

Timer is going on supper. Must go turn off the oven and get stuff out.
