Pasta shapes Sunday!

Good Morning Everyone! Saw the picture below on a local Deli site this past week. Isn't it beautiful! The article was talking about the difference between the artisanal extrusion of pasta through bronze dies vs. industrial pasta, which can be made from start to finish in half a day. They said that the extruded pasta has a rough surface that can better hold your sauce.

Well....we indeed have a mouse. Woke up this morning to see three empty peanut shells chewed and left on the kitchen floor and another one in the second foyer where the 50 lb. bag of peanuts resides. I'll move both the peanuts and the sunflower seeds out to the garage until we catch the mouse. Right now it doesn't have to go to the trap as there's just a big ole smorgasbord beside it to load up on. :( Sure hope we get it soon. If Jim heads off to Texas and it's still here, I will not be sleeping well.

Not sure what to make for dinner but I have a menu all written out. I'll let Jim take a look and see if he finds something he'd like for this evening.

    Wishing everyone a great day!

    Good Morning Everyone!

Your girls yesterday were young Janet. You are brave to have entertained such youngsters in a house not childproofed. Happy to hear everything was enjoyed and eaten up. Hope you get your mouse soon. Perhaps the diffusers you are looking at have a switch so the light doesn't need to be on?

OMG Bren that your doggie spit out her pills. LD takes Denamarin daily and he too is a pill spitter but I hide it in a blob of ricotta cheese that he swallows down and I stand over him like a mother hawk. I found that if I hid his pill in something he had to chew he would detect it but the ricotta is soft so he just swallows it down.

The only other thing I make at this time Shona is moisturizing lotions and solid lotion bars. Both are easy and both I use. I prefer homemade to store bought anytime and love that I can put what I want in them.
Poor Colter ... hope he gets over what's ailing him soon. Keeping fingers crossed you or your DH don't get it too.

Aaagh, washing shower curtains is the worse Karen. Always so messy.

BIG Congrats to you DD Kimmer on her engagement! So happy to hear she reconnected with a great guy. Wishing them all the best. It's probably too early to ask but any plans yet for a wedding date?
I love meatloaf! Nothing says "comfort" and "home" like a good one. The celebration meal sounded perfect and now you have me craving meatloaf.
Isn't this "cold front" we are having in FL amazing! and a welcome relief.

Need to make a trip to the store today. Kimmer has me craving meatloaf and I need to pick up meatloaf mix. I also need to make a doggie muffin for LD ... one with some meat and veggies in it. LD has been waking my DH up around 1:00 - 2:00 a.m. the last couple nights for no good reason. We think he may be hungry and if I give him a little something to eat before bed ... we'll see. It's either that or the dog is just being a pain. My DH will eventually get up and go lay down in the spare bedroom and close the door so the dog can't get in.

It looks like another mild temperature day!

Morning Linda! It's so hard to tell sometimes when you're ordering online about certain features, but....the diffuser I was interested in just says " With 7 soothing color LED light, you can set it on auto changing modes or steady on one color. Cozy lamp matches your mood, creating a relaxing, calm ambient." But...I'll just keep looking and like you say, perhaps can find one without a light or one with a switch to turn it off. :) Very cute @ 'doggie muffins'. :) Hope it solves the problem.

2C/35F here at the moment. It's really cooled down here as well. Sunshiny though. We'd thought about doing a day trip today but have been out and about so much that I think we're just going to stay home. Would love to get out for a bike ride or a nice walk. MIght also make a batch of chicken broth.

Forgot to mention ... many years ago I had a pasta machine that I loved! After having it so long it finally broke and I never replaced it. It did everything ... it mixed the ingredients, then I'd put a dye on for the shape of the pasta I wanted and out it would come and I'd cut it to size. I agree with sauce sticking better to "not massed produced" extruded pasta and it's rough surface. Boy, do I miss that machine.

So Jim chose "Flank Steak" for dinner tonight. My flank steak is super small though so I also grabbed two very small filet mignon. I think I'm going to marinate them in
    A Marinade For All Seasons
that Nadine just reviewed in IMI11.
    Twice Baked Spinach Potatoes
on the side and maybe a small batch of
    Crab Stuffed Jalapenos
as I have six? big jalopenos I want to use up.

    Good morning everyone.

A huge congrats to DD, Kimmer. Wonderful love story.

That is a beautiful photo, Janet. I cook my pasta the same way that MIL cooked hers. I simmer it for 5 then drain and add to a pan with two ladles of cooking water and two ladles of sauce. As the pasta cooks it pulls in the flavour of the sauce.

Yikes on the mouse. I hope that you can catch it soon. I read, somewhere, that they don't like peppermint tea but I haven't tried that method.

Yum on your dinner, Janet. What time should I arrive? I'll bring the wine, lol lol.

Annie is on apoquel , daily and she also gets raw cranberries to prevent UTI's and chickpeas for fibre as she's on a grain free kibble. I put the pill in the ground berries and chickpeas and she still spits it out. I'll have to come up with another method.

I have to admit that all of this talk about meatloaf has me wanting some.

Sorry that LD is waking you up, Linda. i hope that the muffins work.

Dinner will be http://tarathefoodie.blogspot.ca/2008/01/roast-chicken.html with Stuffed Artichokes , salad and roast potatoes.

I'm going to use this recipe as the base but I won't use the sugar and I'll sub out half the white flour with whole wheat. To it I'll use my judgement and add some cooked ground beef and I'll run some veggies thru the food processor and add them. Hopefully LD will like them if not I know the raccoons will.

Your dinner does sound good Janet! and so does your Bren!
I did get out to the store for meatloaf mix but we'll have it tomorrow. DH wants a steak and I'll make a salmon patty for me over top a salad.

I give LD pieces of baked sweet potato for fiber Bren. He likes it and it does the job. In that he's had so many teeth removed I can't give him kibbles so I use The Honest Kitchen base mix and add protein and veggies to it and occasionally starches like oats or potato or pasta.

    Hello everyone!

Congrats on your daughter's engagement Kimmer! That's so nice they found each other again, it must be fate!

Your dinner menu sounds wonderful Janet. Yikes on the mouse! My dogs are good at scaring the critters away, perhaps you need a cat..lol ;)

Hi Linda, I hope you got your meatloaf ingredients. Now I'm craving it too ;)

Hi Bren, the things we do for our pet's, Lol! I hope you find a good solution for the pill "spitting".

Not much happening here. Pete took my van to the shop to do an oil change and pick up some grocery's I ordered online. We have some leftover roast beef and mashed potatoes for dinner tonight. I have some yeast dough rising, and I'm not sure what I'll make with it yet..... It's a sweet/enriched dough. I just wanted the smell of yeasty dough baking as I haven't made it in over a year, Lol ;)

Have a great day everyone! :)
