#SaltBae Sunday

Good Morning Everyone! Just finished my first cup of coffee and we're going to chat with Benjamin on Skype in a little bit. He heads to Manila on Tuesday for a week's vacation. He's sent us a bunch of travel info and things he'd like to do there and he's also made contact with some Esperantists in Manila who are going to tour him around so Jim and I are feeling better about his trip. :)

So what's with Salt Bae? First off I must clarify that I really dislike the 'term' bae to describe a boyfriend or girlfriend. I don't know why it irritates me so much, but it does. Anyway.....
Salt Bae is a nickname given to Turkish chef Nusret Gökçe, who was widely discussed on social media following the circulation of a video in which he flamboyantly sprinkles salt on a carved steak.

On January 7th, 2017, Gökçe uploaded a video of himself carving a steak and sprinkling salt over his forearm on to the meat (shown below). Within 48 hours, the video gained over 2.4 million views and 8,700 comments and thus the memes and the hashtag #SaltBae came to be.

No clue what to make for dinner this evening, nor do I know what we're up to. Maybe after a second cup of coffee things will be clearer. :)

I've heard of tubs being modified to have a door in them Bren. There's only one bathroom in Mom's house and Dad never outfitted it with a shower, plus Mom hates showers. LOLOL. Thanks for your thoughts. It's nice to have this group to bounce thoughts/concerns off of. JIm's Dad was actually talking about getting a door put in his tub as he likes showers but finds it hard to get in and out of the tub. You'd think it'd be cheaper to install a whole new tub that came with a door as opposed to putting a door in an existing tub but I've never ever looked at it.

Wishing everyone a most lovely Sunday.

Enjoy your chat, Janet. It must be a huge relief that Benjamin will be getting help while in Manila.
I had a look at the video, flamboyantly is a great way to describe it.
Your welcome Janet. It's actually much cheaper to put the door in, we looked at both options. There is also a one time grant that will cover most of the cost. I can't remember the agency that provides this but can dig around and find out if your interested.
I've decided to make some pasta this afternoon and serve that with garlic bread, salad and Italian Meatballs.
I'm not sure what I'm doing today either but it should be cleaning.

No rush Bren but yes, if you do come across the info about the agency that provides the bath-tub door etc. I'd be interested. Between my Mom and Jim's Dad it'd be good info to have. Nice on the grant. LOVE the sound of your dinner for tonight.

Can you believe Jim and I just finished breakfast????? We didn't start 'til noon as we were talking to Benjamin. Guess we'll skip lunch. I still don't know what to make for dinner.

    Good Afternoon Everyone.

It's really windy here today. Suppose to be getting storms but not sure when and too they might miss us as it could be raining 5 minutes down the road and nothing here.
Cleaned the main bathroom this morning and started straightening out and organizing DH's clothes as he has stuff all over the place. A little at a time.
After taking care of him for a week I concluded this moving thing and contacted the realtor last night. Waiting to hear back from her. I tried to talk to DH about it and not sure what he does and does not understand but all I know is it made him agitated. I just won't talk to him about it anymore. I have to make some really hard decisions for the both of us and a year or two from now, if he is still alive, if he is doing well, then he will just have to understand.
DH fell asleep on the couch again and after he was asleep I went into the bedroom (just off the family room) and slept in the bed. I feel much better today.

Nice you got to chat with your DS Janet and great to hear he will have a guide to keep him safe while in Manila. In any country, even our own, you never want to be in the wrong section of town.
There are lots of companies that do the walk in tubs (at least in the states) and they do seem worth the expense for the safety they provide. I can't believe your mom wouldn't call for help, but then again I do because that'd been just like my mom. Is hiring a home health aide for a few hours a day an option?

Hi Bren. Pasta and meatballs sound great ... do you make your own pasta? My favorite way to make garlic bread is to toast the bread so it's nice and crispy then I rub it with raw garlic and drizzle it with olive oil. Yum!

Hope everyone else is having a pleasant Sunday.

    Okay...decided on
    Pickle Brined Chicken
for dinner with a baked potato and perhaps a veggie tray on the side.

Good afternoon Linda. Glad you got a better sleep last night. If you are really concerned about leaving DH out in the living room you could always get a monitor and that way you'd hear in the bedroom if he was stirring about. Sending you the best vibes possible that everything goes as easily as possible for you with the house. You are doing such a good job. Mom could get a Care worker at the house a few times a week for free but she steadfastly refuses. Mainly because she is 81 and my Aunt is going on 89 and my Aunt doesn't need one and she too is living on her own. My Aunt doesn't even drive for heaven's sake! LOLOL. Anyway....Mom figures if Aunt Irene doesn't need a care worker at 88 then she certainly doesn't being seven years younger. It's a pride thing. I've been trying to persuade her for years. And yes, I could force the issue and make her have one but I really don't want to go down that path. I guess that's why I'm always so worried when I hear stories like this one because I feel guilty I'm not pushing her to get a care worker or move into the Senior apartments. But I truly believe she is way happier where she is and she'd just give up and die if she moved.

Can't do the Pickle brined chicken because it takes a day to marinate and I forgot about that part. LOL. So.....am going to do an appy dinner.
Sauteed Scallops With Dijon Mustard Sauce
    Joce's
    Wonton Rounds Topped With Mushrooms
    Devilled eggs
    Veggie tray
I have some shrimp too so could put out shrimp and cocktail sauce if I think we need more food, but I think we'll be fine.

I understand. For years I wanted my mom to move when she got older to a more manageable place and she refused. There was only so much fighting I wanted to do but I would visit weekly just to see how everything was. My mom died peacefully at home the way she wanted and we found her 3 days later. You can only do so much and then the rest is with God ... I've accepted that now with DH too.
Can you tell her your Aunt now has a care worker ?? or would she be wise to the game.

LOLOL. No, Good idea but it wouldn't work Linda. Mom and my Aunt see each other almost every day and neither would pull the wool over the others eyes. As you say, you can only do so much. I dislike the expression but "It is what it is". Rainy River is a tiny town and people watch out for one another. Mom and my Aunt call each other every night. It's about as good as it gets at this point.

Sure quiet in here today. Gloomy weather outside. We have a Hockey game to watch in half an hour. Just came in from the hot tub. Prepped all my appys so will eat during the first and second period probably. :)

Hi all, it's Monday morning here and sunny so I am glad of the air conditioning in my office. Janet your scallops sound wonderful as do the sides to go with them and so does the idea of pasta with meatballs.
Yesterday I made a no-bake cheesecake that I hope to upload this evening because we really enjoyed it and the good news is that we have dessert (which I almost never make) for a few more evenings as well. Jason is spending his day watching NFL playoff games because this year we actually have TV in our home, unlike last playoff season. So far he has been reasonably happy with the outcomes of the games.
I am not sure what will be on the menu for tonight but pretty much can guarantee it won't involve heating up the house if we can help it. I love summer but there are some things that are not quite so nice when it gets hot for long stretches.
Janet, the colour of the polish is a boring name - Amethyst Surprise - it is a brand I haven't heard of before called IDB. They turned out nice though.

Have a great day (or rest of the day) everyone,
    Michelle B

    Hi.

Good you got to Skype with Benjamin, Janet. Glad he has someone to show him around Manila. In today's world it pays to be on the safe side. Oh dear on the war of the care workers....would Aunt Irene agree to get one so your Mom would see it as more "acceptable" to do so also? Dad eventually hired a weekly housekeeper to clean for him, but it took persuading and he liked the way she made over his cat.

I have toyed with the door-to-the -tub option in the future, Bren. If the step into the tub is a short six inches or so then the door idea is great. I probably would buy a new unit from the company. but haven't really thought about any alternatives.

Hi Linda. How nice you got a good nights sleep. It must feel good to get a handle on getting things back the way you want it. Don't feel pressured to do too much too soon. You have enough on your plate. Like the idea of a monitor, if he would tolerate it.

We went out for lunch with several from church today. Food was okay, nothing spectacular, instead of the roast beef dinner I should have ordered a taco salad, have been on a roll wanting them, probably because of the lettuce and veggies and salsa / sour cream addiction. Ha ha!

Hi Michelle B., just want to say it's nice to meet you and looking forward to getting to know you better.

I like Karen's idea of both mom and auntie getting a home health aide. Perhaps a "Valentine present" for them both.

I'd opt for a taco salad anytime Karen if given the choice.

We are fortunate to have a walk in shower. Never thought I'd see the day of being thankful for it.
DH drove me nuts today! He was obsessed with money today. Needed to see the checking account over and over and over. Then wanted to rifle thru my office and files. Don't know what he was obsessed about but it was something. Finally had to give him an anti anxiety pill to get him calmed.
The realtor went to see the house in SC today and she noted things that need to be fixed by the builder. Now I know I made the right decision to let it go, it's just too much to handle and with DH like he is ... well enough said. I start doing the paperwork with her tomorrow and will slowly begin to unpack here and look to get rid of some stuff too and will call my realtor and officially take this place off the market (as opposed to temporarily suspended).
It was very windy all day but no rain or storms passed thru which was a blessing.

Good evening all. Delightful thunderstorms have finally made their way. Wind today, unfortunately tore my gazebo canvas all up. Will have to order a new one. Michael is upset as he is the one that bought me this gazebo. Told him no worries, already have it ready to order. The gazebo is huge and the canvas was ready to be replaced anyway!

Made a delightful chicken and garlic cream sauce for dinner tonight. Went over sooooo well! Everyone, including my critical hubs, said it was restaurant quality!! So pleased! Unfortunately, didn't write down any thing I did!!! Just threw it together! But hey, those are usually the best dinners anyway!

Know in the future we will have to do something with our tub. We have a jacuzzi tub with a shower and I cringe every time using it. Know I will fall eventually. Hard to get out of. Geez, I fall off the floor so damn easy, lol!

    Sleep sweet all..................as always...................

    SP MichelleB. Love Cheesecake.

Linda, I hope things improve for you. Can DH write what is bothering him? Could he be worrying over some bill that he wonders if it was paid? I don't like seeing anxiety pills used all the time but they can certainly ease your day in this instance. Glad it helped.

Kimmer, our Gazebo canvas has to be replaced also. We did not get a lot of use last summer because of hordes of mosquitos that opted to make MO their home, maybe next summer will ne better.

Chicken with garlic and cream sauce does sound good! I tend to throw things together and it can be a real challenge to recall exactly what spices etc went into it. Hope you post it after reconstructing the recipe.

Mel and Trouble are on my lap. We have a fire in the wood burning stove and the living room is cozy warm. It rained all day off and on, was 50's F this morning and dropped to 43 F by three. Cold and damp outside.

    Have a nice evening everyone.
