SOS - Swearing on Saturday

Well Suffering Succotash, as Yosemine Sam would say.

Just separated out any tomato plants that looked like they could be diseased from the healthy looking ones to try to isolate the fungus from spreading further. Three and a half trays of bad plants and two and a half trays of good plants. I'm about to go off like the Tasmanian Devil.

Only silver lining on that cloud over my head is that I'm scheduled to start two more trays of seeds come March. That will be another 144 plants if all germinate. Special attention to sanitation and sterilization is paramount. I'll be using a different brand of seed starter this time, which is where I think the contamination originated.

Made three loaves of Challah yesterday evening, so that's what I'll be munching on today. Maybe some soup to go with it. Have a head of celery in the crisper that I can boil up with some canned condensed soup for sopping the bread.

It's snowing here this morning! Quite hard at the moment.

I have a small beef tenderloin that I will cook Wynnes way (my new favorite). Will do some cheesey mashed potatoes and a veggie!

Working all day at Macy's, but there is big fat snowflakes coming down right now.

Keep it lubed up with hot salve alternated with a cold compress. It will get those muscles un-knotted. If its something else, see a doctor.

Might convince myself to pick up some deli meat for sandwiches if there is an additional reason to get out on the road.

Doing up a big old ELMO cake today for a party we're going to tomorrow....for another officer's little granddaughter turning 2. She loves Elmo---he will sit up on top and hold onto a number "2" candle!

That's the highlight of my big day, ha!

Dinner over here is going to be chicken something or another, ha! I might try out that new seasoning packet from McCormicks that has all the little spices pre-measured out. Sounds like dinner to me!

Sad weekend around here. Our good friend John lost his brother (also a good friend) last night. Dave had a heart attack around Christmas and spent a lot of time in the hospital. After he got out they started him on dialysis because his kidneys had shut down at one point. Thursday night his friend found him passed out in his room and took him to the hospital, he had had a stroke. Never came out of it and it was his wishes to not be kept holding on. So John made the difficult decision to let him go. Dave passed around 9 last night. This is right on the heels of them both burying their mother last month. :(

I can't even imagine how John is feeling right now...he should be here soon. I will give him a big hug and feed him if he's hungry.

The memorial will be held at John's home in a couple of weeks and I want to make and take as much food as I can. So I guess I will be searching for some good casseroles and such. Any suggestions are always gladly accepted...and appreciated.

On a lighter note, finally got Karma's glasses on order. Poor thing has been dealing with these clumsy wire ones for months now....they were the only one's that Pearle Vision had when we got them the last time. Not a good idea with an active 7 year old. Always getting bent and were starting to dig in at her nose. These new ones are so cute. Plastic blue denim rims...can't wait! Treated them to a Happy Meal and picked up some pizza crusts. Going to do a buffalo chicken one and then the basic ones that the girls love, pepperoni, Canadian bacon...and so on...

    LOL Pat!
So sorry about your friend's loss of his brother, Ang. It's good he has you and Steve. Put a pic of Karma in her new glasses when she gets them.

I don't even want to think about dinner yet! Just doing laundry and put some postings on Craigslist. Those tamale bites were great last night. Really easy to make too. Maybe I can talk "Him" into eating the leftover ones - he does love 'em!
Started out this morning looking like it was going to be clear, but it's dreary and cloudy and gray out.

Sorry for your loss Ang. I don't understand the practice of preparing a feast when someone dies. They did that for my grandmother. There was no way I could eat anything. I was too tore-up and couldn't do anything but cry and blubber. Goodness, couldn't even talk.

Made some sammies from some deli meat and had to plop plop fizz fizz a couple of Alka-Seltzers later.

Spent the better part of the morning and afternoon digging up info on what I can do to prevent from losing half my crop again when I go to make some more seeder trays in a couple of days. Even wrote the company where the seeds were purchased for some ideas.

Thanks everyone. John just left and he is hanging in there. After Dave there is just not a whole lot of family left for him. Well, there's us. Not blood but family just the same. You might remember me referring to him as 'permanent fixture'. LOL

It's good to remember the funny parts of knowing Dave. I don't think I have ever met anyone as strong willed and minded as him. Loved to read, play guitar and was a good cook. I remember him in my kitchen one night trying to instruct me (unsolicited mind you) on how to clean and cut up a pineapple. Get out of my kitchen asshole! ahahaha
I never got to try his cooking because that is what he did for a living. He refused to do it at home or anywhere else.
Rough around the edges guy with a big heart. Lost a girlfriend to breast cancer shortly before he had his heart attack and we think that is part of the reason his health started failing.
Oh the arguments we would have regarding religion! It was fun. ;-P
I'm thinking it is going to be a pretty big turnout. Like John said, he could get you all worked up and frustrated but we always went back for more... :)
Not really thinking of a 'big feast' but mainly some kind of finger foods to have around to munch on...lil tamale bites will be one I think.

Also...do you guys know what they call those things where you roll up ham and cream cheese (other ingredients I'm sure) in a tortilla and then slice them into little pinwheels? Want to do some of those....

They're called hye rollers, Ang. (don't know why?) Costco sells big trays of 'em already made up. Can't beat 'em for get-togethers.

Ended up making chicken taquitas, well not "making them", but plopping them in the oven along with some Tater Tots. Easy Peasy to say the leasty. Kitchen smells wonderful - got apple crisp in the oven... MMMMmmmmmm

And LOL, Wynne on your weather.

Condolences Ang! Good Karma (the other kind!)
I made chicken wings. I put them on a cookie sheet,, seasoned with salt and pepper and granulated garlic, then drizzled melted butter over them and baked them at 375 for a little over an hour. Then I melted a litle butter in some Texas Pete's hot sauce to dip them in....sooooo good!. Slice zucchini , dipped in melted butter (yeah, more butter and then panko bread crumbs mixed with parmesan cheese and baked them as well. It could have been worse, I could have fried everything, but this was so much easier!
pleclare, isn't it really snowy out your way? Wynne and pat2me, also?? We had rain, which we can always use! I'm not complaining, that's for sure!
