Sunday's Saltimbocca

  • chuckieb 8 years ago
Good Morning Everyone! It's a most lovely Sunday morning here in the Ottawa Valley. Hope you all had a great celebration yesterday.
I'm going to try a recipe of Pat's for dinner this evening that Michelle brought to my attention so I can use up the rest of the Creme Fraiche that I bought last week
    Chicken Saltimbocca
I don't have Prosciutto but Jim's not keen on it anyway, so I'll just make it without.
May go for a Picnic for lunch today. Or Jim may go for a kayak in the river. We shall see.
I googled how old chickens generally are when they start laying eggs Karen and learned that on average they are 6 months.
    Wishing everyone a peaceful Sunday.

    Good morning
Beautiful day here today. After the farmers market I'm going to hang on the deck and relax. Dinner will be leftovers from yesterday. I will get some farm eggs at the market usually $5 a dozen I think we were talking about the price of eggs recently.
Frank and I are going to try to eat a little healthier after this weekend lol. We have been eating like we are on vacation since we came back from vacation over a month ago!

Good Morning Laurie! Have fun at the Farmer's Market. Jim and I have to get back on the beam again too. Need to head back to the exercise equipment in the mornings. Ugh.
I bought a box of 18 eggs for $5.29 this past week.
Big Hawk outside. The birds, squirrels, chippies etc. are freaking out.
Jim has gone for a Kayak and we are planning on doing a picnic as well at Pinhey's Point.

    I'm making
    Curried Crab Pitas
    for it.
Am baking some beets to use in a salad this evening to go with the Chicken.

We didn't make it to Smiths Falls yesterday to pick up the pork chops b/c I didn't want to take a chance with my tummy and being able to find a washroom readily. TMI We are going to go this afternoon my tummy is a bit better today.
Enjoy your picnic Janet, it is indeed a beautiful day.
Lori mentioned the price of eggs on FB the other day, Laurie. I find it depends on where I buy them. They very from $2.29 on sale to about $5.00 a dozen if I buy them fresh from a farm.
Off to make some lunch and then go pick up the pork chops. We are having pot roast for dinner with mashed potatoes, gravy and a veggie of some sort.
Nice to see you here again, Val:)

    Wishing everyone a wonderful day!

Hi! Hope you enjoy Chicken Saltimbocca tonight Janet, it sounds pretty dang good! Bacon would be a great sub for the prosciutto. Have a good time on your picnic :)

Lol Laurie at eating like you on vacation :P $5 a dozen is pretty pricey. The yard eggs from our FM are $2.39.

    Yum on pot roast Joce!

Had a great time at my parents house yesterday! The food was great, didn't ever eat or leave feeling like I had consumed 2000 calories like most get togethers. I think the most fattening thing was the dips and I tried to stay away from them lol. There was a TON of meat, chicken, sausage, ribs, brisket and some baked beans. We also stuffed some poblanos with cheese and threw those on the grill, SO GOOD! About to meet my dad for lunch so gotta run, have a great day!

mmm, the Saltimbocca sounds good! I agree with Michelle and would use bacon to wrap it in instead of prosciutto. Enjoy your picnic today! :)
Wow, those eggs sound super pricey! The farm fresh eggs down the road are $3.00 a dozen. The Free Run eggs at the grocery store are $4 dollars a dozen.
I hope your tummy feels better Joce! Pot roast sounds great!
Sounds like a wonderful time at your parents house Michelle. lol, it would be hard to stay away from all that food!
Yesterday we worked hard on the yard, it's never ending! I didn't make any supper, my tummy wasn't feeling good so the Pete and the kids scrounged for leftovers, lol. Tonight we're finally having the steaks I bought with some skewered garlic shrimp and salad. Thankful for cooler weather, although it might rain so dinner might have to be inside, we'll see.
Have a great Sunday everyone! :)

I've had sage growing in my herb garden for years but went out earlier today and can't see the plants anymore. LOLOL. So now I'm down two ingredients for the Chicken Saltimbocca. Oh well. I'll carry on.
Glad to hear you had a great time at your parents place yesterday Michelle.
Your dinner this evening sounds to die for Shona. I've been craving steak myself. Jim kind of got ripped off on Father's Day as we were out visiting my Mom and he got somewhat overlooked. I plan on re-creating it sometime this week so will grab some rib eyes then.
Did some weeding in the front garden before lunch. We had a good bike ride to Pinhey's Point and I saw a Blanding's Turtle on the way and got a good picture! :) They are an endangered species here in Ontario so it was a special treat. He was a big one and look pretty healthy.
Enjoyed our picnic. My bum started to hurt on the way back. :)

Yum on surf and turf for dinner Shona, hope the rain stays away so you can grill it!

Glad you had a good picnic Janet :)

Pulled out some chicken thighs for dinner and decided on this Tuscan Boneless Chicken Thighs along with some grilled corn and maybe sweet potatoes or just a side salad, I guess it depends on how hungry we are!

OK I finished a long post and it got eaten alive. So this is all that is left - LOL!
HI to all. Hope everyone had a nice weekend. It is after 7:45 and I just now found time to sit down and relax. Joce, hope you feel better. Janet, Michelle, Shona, Laurie, everyone else - hello!

The game camera in the hen house showed one big black snake and a zillion insects. Insects are not a problem, just protein for the chickens, but this snake might be the cause of losing several chickens. His sojourn in my barn is at an end if he doesn't reform and change his chicken-dinner preferences to mouse snacks.

Fireworks were spectacular. Attendance was down just a bit, but a lot of jobs have been lost with cost-cutting in the past few years, and with ISIS / terrorist threats in the news, maybe some decided to forgo this year's show. The weather was great for it this year, rain, rain, lots of rain so safety was not a problem. The post does not even allow sparklers to be brought in, so youngest GS had to wait until we got back home to enjoy his, which we got him last year. He was so tired he could hardly keep his eyes open after the fireworks were over, but he managed to light two sparklers, with his brother's watchful eye, of course.

A.C. was a bad cat again. He and Mel went from sparring to all out battle and I had to intervene. A.C. was not ready to give up. He earned his nickname, "The bad kitty." I had to give Wayne another F in cat patrol, as he didn't hear the two doing anything other than play-fight. Sigh.

Have a good evening. Tina, thinking about you!

Omg Janet, the turtle just gave me a memory from childhood. When we lived in Ontario we went camping somewhere (can't remember where but it was in Ontario) It was on a river, and my brother and I were playing on the edge with several other kids. And I found a turtle, a big one! I had never seen a turtle that big before. I wonder if it was that species? I must have been between 10-12 at the time. I'll have to ask my dad if he remembers where we were, we have several pictures of us in a dingy/raft floating down this winding river. Too bad it's endangered, but that's such a good sign you saw one!
Anyways, sun came out, grilled up the rib eyes and shrimp. They were a little burnt around the edges as they were a thin cut. Next time I'll get thicker sirloins as beef is getting pricey!
Eeek, I hope you catch that snake Karen!
