Thursday's Tennessee Whiskey

Good Morning Everybody! I have a fun day ahead of me. Going to drop Jim at the Park n' Ride so I can have the use of the car today. Want to do a wee bit of clothes shopping (Jim's Company's Christmas Party is the beginning of Dec. and I'm not sure what to wear) and then I need just a couple of groceries, go to the drugstore,etc.etc. And then I'm meeting my girlfriend for lunch. We're going to the Lone Star
    http://www.lonestartexasgrill.com/menus
I'm still trying to figure out a couple of fun things to make for Halloween dinner. I did find this Halloween Cocktail (thus the Jack Daniels reference) :)
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_emE4oX3Soc&feature=share
but I'd like a food item as well.
Jim's having his friend over tonight so I'm going to serve
    Chicken Parmigiano
and a veggie tray as a side or appy.
Totally have my fingers and toes crossed that Mary responds positively to the new meds Karen.
Temperatures are continuing to cool. 3C/37F right now with a high of 7C/44F forecast.
    Wishing everyone a great Thursday!

The ghost practiced scaring people night after night. He was finally ready for his day boo.

What did the little ghost have in his rock collection?
    Tombstones.

What kind of boat pulls Dracula when he water skis?
    A blood vessel.

Janet, Janet....lol at the puns and jokes. I hope you have a most successful shop. Event specific shopping is tough. Yummy Halloween cocktail. Jim doesn't like meat loaf right? So a feet loaf wouldn't work. I saw someone skewer two whole chicken wings on a skewer to look like bat wings? the tips had been left on and they were coated in black sesame seeds in addition to the sticky glaze. Your dinner tonight sounds perfect. I'm sure Jim's friend will be happy as a clam with Chicken Parmigiano . How do you know if a clam is happy?

Positive thoughts for Mary and a swift recovery with the medication. Karen, take care.

Another sleepless night. This is getting ridiculous. Went to bed at 4:30 and woke at 6:30 and forced myself to stay in bed until now.

Olivia surprised me with the most perfect late birthday gift. It is a charcoal underwater sea turtle, with the light from above shimmering through the sea to shine on the beautiful turtle. She commissioned the piece for me. It is gorgeous. I balled like a baby. My Ty-guy, my beloved turtle. Although, he is in Heaven and whole, I consider turtles my constant reminder of his strength, wisdom beyond his years, and unconditional love. Love you Ty and love you Olivia. Now, I need to find some wall space for this phenomenal piece of art.

More errands for me, have to add a dermatologist to my list of physicians. The spot that itches on my top of my head is a rapid growth mole. Liv looked at it. Irregular, bumpy, fast growth and painful. My hair hurts around it, if such a thing is possible.

High today 28C/83F lows tonight to 23C/74F. Cool front coming in Saturday night and our overnight temps will be 7C/45F. YEAH. I can't wait. Light rain heading our way. Dry for Halloween.

Marie, SF won! Such an exciting game to the very last out. I'm sure the town went nuts celebrating. Three Giant wins in five years is awesome.

Dinner is in flux. Breakfast will be scrambled eggs with salsa.

Just about to head out. I refuse to sweat it if I don't find anything today to wear to the Christmas Party. I dislike clothes shopping at the best of times. Figure if I just pop in a few times before the day something may just jump off the hanger at me? Here's wishing anyway.
Jim loves meatloaf Tina, it's me that doesn't. :) Those wings sound perfect though and I've had a craving for wings lately. I'm going to check into that and I'll pick up some wings when I'm out today.
Had to google "Happy as a clam" as you got my curiosity up.

Why would clams be happy? It has been suggested that open clams give the appearance of smiling. The derivation is more likely to come from the fuller version of the phrase, now rarely heard - 'as happy as a clam at high water'. Hide tide is when clams are free from the attentions of predators; surely the happiest of times in the bivalve mollusc world. The phrase originated in the north-eastern states of the USA in the early 19th century.

Ugh on no sleep again. Your new Turtle sounds lovely. What a thoughtful gift from Liv. Indeed, go get that spot on your head checked. Better safe than sorry. Nice temperatures in your part of the world.
Congrats on the SF win Marie! :)

    Good morning.

The Turtle sounds beautiful. It was such a nice gift. Do have the spot checked out ASAP.

I can understand the shopping dislike - completely. Your dinner tonight sounds wonderful.

I was going to fix kielbasa something or other but lo and behold we are OUT of kielbasa, so I guess I did not buy some the last time I went grocery shopping. Grrr!
I got one of the last packages of ground venison from the freezer and will fix something with potatoes - carrots - noodles - whatever. It is time to search the recipes again!

Hi all! Good luck shopping Janet. I just know the chicken parm is going to go over very well tonight. I too hate shopping for myself. Love shopping for the kids though :) Lone Star Grill looks to be very Tex Mex. I would definitely get some queso to start with and then the Peppercorn New York Strip! Love the Halloween jokes :P

I can't believe how little sleep your getting Tina. I don't even know how you don't face plant into bed at night into a deep sleep after so many sleepless night. :( That was a sweet gift from Liv.... Glad to hear your getting that spot checked up on. Wonder what they are going to do to fix it? Wow you are going to be getting some really cool weather. Now I am curious and want to check up on our 10 day forecast to see if we are getting anything. Ok I looked. Looks like Saturday is going to be it and that's with a high of 64 degrees :) Lol, not exactly cold.

Hi Karen. Ground venison anything sounds good in my book :) I actually have a package of ground venison I got from the FM. I will probably make burgers with it.

Just hanging out today, being lazy and trying to keep quiet because Michael is sleeping. I have a ton of purple hull peas in my freezer that I may cook up today just to have some lunch food on hand. I like to cook them with either bacon or ham hocks. I have both! No after school activities today so it should be an easy evening. Going to finally make some of the salmon I bought. I decided on this recipe (I think) Moroccan Broiled Salmon and this one as a second choice in case I decide to change my mind last second :) Grilled Salmon With Tomatoes Spinach And Capers Will serve whatever veggies I can find in the fridge with it :) Okay off to be lazy again, have a good day!

I found a basic stew recipe on Allrecipes : http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Shipwreck-Stew/Detail.aspx?event8=1&prop24=SR_Title&e11=shipwreck%20stew&e8=Quick%20Search&event10=1&e7=Recipe%20Hub&soid=sr_results_p1i1. It calls for a slow cooker but I was in a hurry for a hot lunch, so I used the stove top and precooked the veggies before adding. It is simmering away as we speak - used ground venison instead of ground beef. Now I am hungry!

Michelle, your salmon sounds super yummy. As does your chicken parmigiano, Janet.

Mel crawled over to my lap - he hears thunder in the distance and / or rain on the metal roof and is scared. Homer decided it was too cool with the guys so came inside and is on his doggie bed -- poor dog is showing his age.

It is sprinkling so the guys may come in earlier for lunch. GS came up from the field where he was working on the fence line so I re-directed him to see his Grandpa for further instructions. He is not a bad worker and does not need supervision. Here they are - got to go.

The Lone Star is major Tex Mex Michelle. The Queso does sound good. I've never tried it. I had a Southern Chicken Sandwich. And my girlfriend got a Steak sandwich. Both were huge and neither of us could finish. (I got a Frozen Lime Margarita too. Ssshhh) :)
Enjoy your relaxing evening. Yum on salmon for dinner.
Enjoy your stew Karen. Nice your GS is over helping out.
I had a good shop in town. Got a couple of new sweaters although nothing suitable for the Christmas Party. Bought a book for my Mom as part of her birthday present coming up in early Dec., groceries and the drugstore.
Now my dinner is all prepped and I'm pretty much set.
OH! The Grocery store didn't have any chicken wings! I was SO disappointed! That's almost like a drugstore being out of Tylenol. Shaking head. The butcher said they'd have more in the afternoon but I wasn't driving all the way back in. Boo.

Well Boo! on no chicken wings. I'll put on my thinking cap for a Halloween supper for two. Kimmer would be telling us fondue. I know that for sure. Love my Tex-Mex, too.

I have chicken breasts, acorn squash, salad, orzo. I think I can cobble something together. I don't know if I have anyone to eat. Otherwise, I'll fix a dish of spaghetti with garlic oil and cheese. Simple, simple. Fred is sleeping. Olivia is "out".

Doctor took a biopsy right away. Said my burn on my arm is bad....yes, I burned it again, simply because I can't feel my forearms and fingers. I pulled something out of the oven and the door bounced. My arms are a mess and now my head has two shaved spots.

Karen, you have a good GS to help out. I hope your stew is good.

Michelle, that salmon sounds delicious. I could make a caper, spinach and tomato angel hair pasta for one. My sleep study shows I spend less than 4% of my sleep time in Stage 3 and none in Stage 4. You have to cycle through to 3 and 4 several times a night in order for your body to heal and regulate hormones. Guess that would explain a lot of my ailments.

Angie is going to do my nails on Saturday. Lynda is leaving tomorrow, driving back to Franklin.

Another burn! Tina! Goodness...poor you. Or what is it that you Southern gals say "Bless your Heart" (in the good way). Glad you got that spot checked out. I am positive I've told this story before but it is one of my fondest funniest memories of Benjamin's childhood re: shaved spots on head. We had just bought an electric shaver thing to cut Benjamin's hair as he used to wear it quite short. I forgot to put the #2 guard or whichever one it was on and I took one good swipe and realized I'd shaved right down to his scalp. Probably the size of a quarter. Oops. ROFL! So I finished the job properly with the guard back on and for the next week I coloured in that spot with eyebrow liner. Worked like a charm. LOL. It makes perfect sense that a person wouldn't heal and such like with out proper sleep but I'd never put a lot of thought into it. Will you get to see Lynda again before she heads home?
Guys are on their way and I have a fire going in the fireplace for when they come in. It's chilly out there.
    GO SENS GO!

I'm glad you were able to find a MOM gift, I know that is a hard one to do, Janet. A couple of nice sweaters sounds like an easy enough shop. I can't believe they ran out of wings at the Grocer. Maybe everyone is making bat wings for Halloween. LOL Go Sens Go!

I accidentally shaved Ty's head to close a few times myself. Janet, I think it is a right of passage for mothers and clippers. You were smart and covered up the spot, I shaved my son bald.

I don't get to see Lynda. She went and scattered Bruce's ashes at a few of his favorite haunts. She went to the cemetary where her beloved pets have been interred. It has been in the news that the perpetual care she paid for is not being done. There is talk of bull-dozing up hundreds of pet remains for a parking lot. She wanted to find Holly and Jingle in the mess and take their stones back to NC. She has been pulled from pillar to post visiting family she hasn't seen in ages.

I want to try and get a decent picture of the turtle. Her charcoal shading is so beautiful, I don't know if a photo could capture the details.

I've just been informed by my baby girl that I am painting her like a peacock tomorrow. Really? And I have to put her in a corset and make it look good. Hmm, I have images of Scarlett and Gone with the Wind......and we will end up like Carole Burnett and Vicki Lawrence. I told her to get a second pair of fish nets for her arms and chest. I'll sponge the body paint over the net and give it a feathery look. I think I can paint the eyes. I do not do eyelashes. But she can run to Angie and have one of the makeup artists there help. Good grief, the eyelashes have rhinestones on them. Everything is way over the top for me.

I was too chicken to cut our daughter's hair. Ever.

Have fun on the peacock-painting, Tina. It is beyond me. Rhinestone eyelashes would probably fall into my eyes and cause temporary blindness - Aargh!

The best costume I ever saw was a friend who came to a "mystery dinner" in the guise of "Rusty Pick," a miner. He carried a pickaxe and a saddle to show he had just gotten off his horse and was ready to hit the mines. So cool!

Yuk on the burns. Keep us posted on the biopsy. I have use Frankincense on moles that suddenly appear.

If you can post a picture of Olivia's costume please do. It sounds cool.

I've been laying in bed for 2 hours trying to sleep. It won't come. TV off, fans on, no dogs and my min won't stop. I've redesigned the St. Pete Pier, created a line of note cards and done Olivia's make up in my head. The sleep doctor said, "If you can't sleep after 20 minutes, get up and go to another room." So here I am two hours later. Wide awake.

So what is the next suggestion? Don't suggest warm milk.

Karen, last time I tried eye lashes, I glued my lids together.
