Turkey Thursday!

Good Morning Everyone! A chilly one here again today. -20C/-4F. Jim and I are just having our coffee and then we'll head down to the treadmill. After breakfast we're going to go for a skate on the pond.
Jim has a Dental appointment after lunch. He has to get that crown on today. While he's in the chair, I'll head to Costco and replenish my bird seed supply. (I've been giving the turkeys a little bit extra since it's been so darn cold out!)
And speaking of turkeys :)......I include two pictures of them in our yard. The first one is them starting to follow me up the laneway. They've become so friendly now that if I go out to the garage or up to get the mail they follow me. It's really funny. The second is them snuggling up just outside our family room window in the cedar branches. The deer had eaten all the greenery off the cedar long ago but Jim just trimmed the branches so they make perfect roosts for the turkeys. Pretty cute eh? :)
Egg Foo Yung and Spring Rolls are on the menu for dinner this evening.
Marie, did Rick get through to his Dad?
I always love hearing about your annual Girl's Party Laurie. I hope the weather doesn't interfere. Both the dinners you cooked last night sounded yummy.
    Thoughts going out to Tina.
Thanks for the Custard info yesterday Joce. I found the Trifle recipe that I made years ago and it's got like a cream cheese, whipping cream mix as opposed to custard. I'd marked on the recipe that it was yummy, easy and looked beautiful so I'm going to go with that again. :) I think it's hilarious that dessert will be "Toe Jam Trifle". :)
How did you make out with all your errands yesterday Michelle?
How did it go with the chimney guy Karen?
Wishing everyone a great day! Thursday already! Wow!

Toe Jam Trifle is hilarious, Janet! Your GF should get a big kick out of the name:) My heavens you do get a lot of wild turkeys there! Very cool that Jim cut the branches back so they have good roosts. Have fun on the pond and enjoy your trip to Costco. I hope Jim's crown goes well today as well. YUM! I love Egg Foo Yung and spring rolls.

Marie, I hope Rick did find out how his Dad is yesterday?

Nothing special happening here today again. Not sure what we are having for dinner yet? LOL Aren't I the chatty one today?

Hoping everyone has a great day!

I survived the treadmill. JUST barely! Ugh. The flock of turkeys that is residing in the yard this winter numbers 19. I get a lot of enjoyment out of them. :) Your son usually heads to somewhere warm around this time of year doesn't he Joce? One of Jim's brothers has taken numerous cruises and I came across an article this past week about this 86 year old woman who LIVES on a cruise ship! What a hoot. I'll share the link.
    http://wate.com/2015/01/20/what-its-like-for-86-year-old-woman-living-aboard-luxury-cruise-ship/
I think it's especially funny as she's from Florida and here a lot of Canadian Seniors flock to Florida to get away from the winters and what does she do? (Maybe she's trying to escape all the Snowbirds?) LOLOL!

    Hi Janet.
Love the turkey pictures. The people who lived here before us tried unsuccessfully to raise turkeys, but predator level here negated domestic turkeys as livestock. They are not as smart as the wild ones. When he was feeding his turkeys (they roamed free) corn one morning he counted them, like always, and discovered that he had gained 3 or 4 at feeding time. The wild ones joined them every morning for some corn. So funny. I have videos taken by game cameras that show flocks of them on our place. We do not hunt them so they are safe, at least from people, on our land.

The chimney guy gives a good impression and he will be ordering the items needed. We ordered the wood burning insert and within a few weeks or so should be able to start a fire instead of running electricity. We ordered the Heritage, I think, because it comes in a Seafoam color that the other one we liked didn't offer. It has ceramic stone on top and will sit out about a foot or so from the fireplace. I will have to hunt for an appropriate kettle to put there so when we use it we will humidify the air. Maybe an enamel or some such thing. I will enjoy hunting for it and Wayne will agree to go along providing a trip to Harbor Freight is in order.

    Tina, thinking of you.

An amazing article, Janet. She sounds like an amazing woman. My son and Ang normally go to Mexico at this time of the year. The whole family go to Florida near March Break.

Pleased you were impressed with the chimney guy and I hope you enjoy your new insert, Karen. I am sure you will find the perfect kettle for it too!

Morning! Cool pictures of the turkeys Janet. That is so funny that they follow you around. I guess they know you supply the food! Yum on egg foo yung...do you use a recipe from here? Glad that you found that trifle recipe, lol at Toe Jam Trifle :P Yes, yesterday evening was super hectic. We were actually 10 mins. Late to gym class, but it was no big deal :) Friday is going to be another crazy evening. That article on the woman who lives on the cruise ship is amusing! Said she gained 25 pounds from the endless food...haha!!

Hi Joce, I'm not sure about dinner either, your not alone :)

Glad you are happy with what's to be done to your chimney Karen, have fun shopping for the kettle!

It's not very cold today about 60F, but it's dark and rainy. I really need to go to Hobby Lobby and do some early shopping for Briauna's birthday sleepover she's having next month. I am going to have the girls decorate their own aprons which they will wear to make their own pizzas and decorate their own cupcakes. I just need to keep them busy, so I have a lot more planning to do. I think I will put Hobby Lobby off until this weekend, I really don't want to get out in this weather. No activities this evening (Phew!) so we will just do homework then hang out! Like I said earlier, not sure what dinner is yet, maybe salmon? Have a great day everyone :)

The ceramic stone on top of the fireplace sticks out about a foot or so? Did I understand that correctly? You'll have to take pictures for us. I don't know that I've seen a fireplace with a ceramic stone on top? It will be fun to hunt for a kettle to put there alright. When we got our insert we bought it from a gorgeous store in Perth where Joce lives. They had these super cool dragon kettles that would breathe steam from their nostrils when they heated up. They were made out of cast iron. The lip on top of our fireplace isn't large enough to set anything on so I didn't get one but I still think they're super cool. It was sort of like this one.

Jim's digging out our skates. I'll be back.

I've never been to Mexico Joce but I know it's a very popular destination area.
LOL Michelle, indeed...it's not me who is popular with the turkeys, it's the sunflower seeds in my pockets. :) I'm not sure where I got my Egg Foo Yung recipe from. It's extremely basic AND I cheat. :) LOL! I just mix egg, bean sprouts, a pinch of salt, 3 tbsp. flour and some finely chopped green onion, cook it and then serve with a pkg. of demi-glace that has been doctored up with some soya sauce and a touch of sesame oil. What will the girls decorate their aprons with? Markers? That's such a fun idea. How many girls will you be entertaining? Glad you have no activities this evening. Salmon sounds yummy for dinner.
I felt like a very OLD lady on my skates. Never felt that awkward before. It's always sort of been like "riding a bicycle, once you learn......" but today I was downright wobbly. Gonna get my skates sharpened and see if that helps. The ice is very bumpy so Jim is out there giving it another flood.

SP triple! Only Janet's original post was there when I posted! LOL.

Glad you survived the treadmill, Janet. I will have to look up that site for cool stuff for fireplaces.

Enjoy your quiet days, Joce and Michelle (painting the aprons sounds like fun).

Has anyone heard from Tina? I imagine the first day after the service is difficult. Prayers, Tina!

The insert goes back into the fireplace as far as we decide. We put a 4 foot slate floor around to catch the sparks ( I picked a gorgeous rust/brown/black-ish pattern that hopefully they have, if not the alternative is a grayish one that would also compliment the color). You can have it all the way in or protrude out a foot or so. We will have a surround to keep the cats from sneaking behind it, and a shield in back so they are blocked from getting behind the insert by going underneath. It has a 6 inch clearance underneath, so I envision A.C. and Mel curled up under it or nearby.

http://www.hearthstonestoves.com/ shows the Heritage model we are getting, the stone color will vary - no choices there. Depends on what they have.

The egg foo yung you make sounds delicious Janet! Here is the one I've made, it's a bit different from yours Egg Foo Yung Ramen Noodle Style/photos, I'm not sure if ramen noodles are traditional in foo yung or not? I saw online Hobby Lobby has fabric markers and fabric paint. I need to go in there and check them out maybe ask someone which works best. I am thinking the fabric paint. May also get some rhinestones and little decorations they can glue on as welll. I saw fabric glue online too. She is inviting 5 girls, but no telling if they are all going to be able to come or not. Lol, I bet sharpening your skates will do the trick :)

The Heritage model is beautiful Karen, I would love that!

    Tina, hope your doing okay...

I almost forgot Briauna has an eye exam today at 3! Good think I write stuff on the calendar or I would forget everything! She is definitely going to need some new glasses, she has recently been sitting at the front of the class because she can't see through hers anymore.

Hi. I have been a mess. I fell twice yesterday, bending over to pick a) a towel, b) my shoes. Had to call the FD twice in one day to lift me up off the floor. Fred's celebration was wonderful. So many loving friends with great stories, lots of food, tears and hugs. I'm so confused and tired, I went to the wrong office for my doctor appointment, it was a dumb mistake.
