Where's O.D.D. Wednesday

  • MissouriFarmWife 9 years ago
I guess all the O.D.D. posters are off and running! Just sat down after cleaning the inside of the refrigerator and pitching the sorry looking unused produce. We discontinued the produce box b/c of so much waste - I can't rationalize wasting food. Today we hit the commissary and pickup groceries for the week. If I buy frozen broccoli I won't have to make a second trip Christmas week. Maybe I will anyway just in case inspiration hits and I do make the fresh veggies. I think I will make basic baked chicken thighs/breasts in an orange juice or honey glaze to go along with the wild boar. Shh! I haven't told the family it is wild caught - heh heh heh. But just in case it does not turn out no one will starve. LOL
No one came to the F.D. yesterday, like we figured would be the case. Two board members plan on running. If we get a third candidate we have to fund an election - but people have a right to run, and I will be there as advertized.

Am being asked 100 questions so must go -- see you later.

We have been corraling the dogs while various repair people are tackling the projects. Screening being done, a new door being installed, trying to get a part ordered when I can't see the model number, basic chaos.

Dinner was delightful. Felt very special indeed.
Have to make some lunch shortly. Olivia is sick, in bed with a fever. I got a flu shot, she did not. She is miserable. Fred is off to the store to get gingerale and gatorade.

Karen, baked chicken sounds yummy. I like getting frozen veggies too, I don't like having them burst all over the freezer. LOL

Pulled some Southwestern cumin/chipotle pork from the freezer to make enchiladas for supper.

Hi Tina. Hope you are feeling better today. No fun feeling yukky.

Every time we moved, it seemed like things chose that opportunity to break down. The basement in our old house (which had been bone dry forever) leaked big time, the water heater went out, a storm damaged the barn, you name it. We changed out the water heater, fixed the basement leak, repaired the barn, and finally sold it after fixing everything. At least the roof was not leaking! It has re-sold a second time and from what I hear it is not being kept up as well. Not my problem.

Dr. appt. tomorrow to get a RX renewed. He is new so he will : 1.) gripe about my weight, 2) try to put me on lipitor (I refuse -- it has nasty side effects), 3) grouse that I am behind on female exams (i know it already), likely try to change my meds (no reason to, I am happy on the two I take and don't need any more), and 4) go ballistic when I explain I am having homeopathic chiropractor treatments for the arthritis (that western medicine would have to replace my hip or surgery or drugs) which seems to be WORKING. It doesn't hurt as much and I can actually enjoy walking.

Uh oh - heard a crash on the porch and Homer is looking sheepish. Must go investigate. See you later.

Tina, oh no, poor Liv..is there a reason she didn't get her flu shot? We do every year and are never sick..I do know some people don't like getting the flu vac..good luck with all the repair work being done! Yum on your dinner:)

    A big hello to everyone!

I am home but, not sure if I am in my right mind at all. (FUSSY from the drugs, I suspect?) They did cut right through my sternum ,like Tina said they would and used arteries from me legs to hook up to the damaged heart areas. Which is why they consider it open heart surgery. I should be go to go in six or 8 week depending. Anyhow, I am home and enjoying the luxuries we have hear way way over the hospitality there. Fading fast I need a nap:) just touching base when I can. HUG))) to all!

Hi all! That's good you have a back up plan in case the boar doesn't turn out Karen. I'm sure it will be delicious though :) Sorry to say, but your doctor appt. tomorrow sounds awful. Good luck :) My gyno forces me to come yearly by not renewing my birth control prescription until I go! Is that legal lol?!

Glad dinner turned out delicious Tina, although how could it not with those ingredients!? Drooling over the pork enchiladas :) Get Well Olivia!!

Oh my gosh on all your rain Marie! Ground Turkey Peppers With Rice sound delish, saved it :)

Welcome home Joce! So glad you stopped in to let us know your doing okay. Sleep well and heal!

Bri's class Christmas party was today. Basically all the parents sqeeze into this tiny class room and stand there like sardines lol. We ate lunch with her too at school. They served up a turkey dinner but we passed on it and brought Subway with us :) We signed her out early (all the parents do) so she only had a half day of school. Only 2 more day until Christmas break starts and Bri can barely contain herself lol! Now we are all being lazy (except busy bee Caiden) and watching movies. Pulled out chicken for dinner, not sure what I'm gonna make with it yet. Have some brussel sprouts and green beans I need to use up soon. Hope everyone is having a great day!!

I love my turkey pepper & rice dish...it's a go to easy comfort meal in my book!
That's funny trying to squeeze all the parents into a tiny classroom! Sounds like it was a fun Christmas party!

    Hi Everyone!
I rarely buy frozen vegetables and I should really look into that. I do buy corn which I rarely use and I buy frozen peas which I do use but nothing other than that. Of course you're not catching me buying broccoli in any state but that's another subject. :) LOL! How long have you guys lived in the house you're in now Karen?
Sounds like your household is a busy spot today Tina. Sorry to hear Liv is sick but that isn't surprising if she's been busy burning the candle at both ends. Neither Jim nor I have ever had a flu shot and we are rarely sick. Can't even remember the last time either of us had the flu. My Dr. suggested it when I was in there last week but I said "No, I don't want one, I've never had one, I am healthy as a horse". Even if I were to contract the flu I'd survive it. I HATE needles. :)
It's good to hear the Lake is getting fuller Marie. I hope the rain continues for the whole State. I saw THE cutest picture the other day on Facebook of the 'statues' of Charlie Brown and Snoopy outside the Charles Schultz Museum in Santa Rosa. It was raining and leaves had swirled up and stuck onto Snoopy so that he looked like a dalmatian. It was adorable. :)
SO HAPPY TO HEAR YOU'RE HOME AND SEE YOU BACK JOCE! I was just about to send Den an email asking for an update! How's your pain? They sure did a lot of things to you but it's great if once healed you'll be good to go again. Also nice to hear you're pleased to be home in your own sanctuary.
That's pretty fun you got to eat lunch with Bri at school. LOL @ passing on the Turkey dinner and bringing Subway instead! :) Benjamin used to be thrilled when we got to sign him out early. We actually have him on video when he was in a Grade 4?/5 recorder recital and you see him following his class off stage and mouthing "SIGN ME OUT". Hilarious! I bookmarked Joce's Melting Mountain chicken recipe. I bet Jim would like that.

Jim and I have been out all day and have now just settled in front of the fire. We had a Lawyer's appointment at 10 (further negotiations with Jim's severance pkg.) and then another Lawyer's appointment at 3 (Wills). And living where we do it'd be a pain to drive all the way home inbetween so we just did some Christmas shopping in Westboro, a nice little trendy area of Ottawa with lots of shops, delis and restaurants. We didn't even eat breakfast until after the first appointment, went to McD's :). I discovered a new Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar store called "Emulsify" and bought this AH-mazing Hickory flavoured Balsamic Vingegar. Heaven!
    http://emulsify.ca/
Got some local honey, some nice chocolates filled with Bailey's Irish Cream for the paper guy and the mail carrier and the best purchase!!!!!! A Smoked Turkey drumstick! Yay! So now I can make Tina's sauerkraut soup.
Had lunch at a spot we hadn't been to before called the Baker St. Cafe. The waiter was so friendly! I had a smoked meat panini with dill pickles (although the pickles had a sweetness to them and I much prefer a pucker) :) and Jim had a Capicollo panini with Dijon and tomates, onion and cheddar cheese. THEY WERE HUGE! Neither of us could finish them. We should have shared one.
    I'm making Pat's
    Oven Fried Panko Chicken
for dinner this evening with some pan-fried asparagus on the side sprinkled with a bit of Truffle Sea Salt.

    Hi all.

    Wayne had a flu shot. I didn’t - since I’m not working I just didn’t get one.

Glad you are home, Joce, and hope all goes well. Some of the drugs used in open heart surgery are known to have that effect. It is a major surgery. Try to relax and get lots of rest and eat healthy etc. etc. etc. It will improve.

Michelle, at 70 yo, birth control is no longer a concern. Ha ha. I will be nice and listen to the new guy, but he will have to accept me for what I am.

Sounds like you had a good time with shopping etc. in between appointments, Janet. We moved here in 1998 from a 7 acre place about 35 miles North. It was a ranch style 1970’s type home. They had redone the 2 car garage into a huge family room, and we spent most of our time there. The LR was itty bitty. Bedrooms were small, a full and a1/2 bath on the main floor. The basement was finished and had a second, smaller, old style kitchen and a rustic (translate metal shower and no amenities) bathroom - if we had not had 2 dogs spending lots of time there and shedding prolifically, it would have been a great canning area, but I didn’t care for the dogs assistance so my canning was done in the comfort of my Tuscan color/style kitchen, with tile floors, lots of cupboard space, better stove, really the most appealing part of the house. I missed it when we moved.

If the weather holds to the South, we will go to Silver Dollar City after my Dr. appointment. Some areas are expecting a couple of inches of snow / rain / sleet but hopefully we are not in one of those.

Commissary was busy but not overcrowded. They did not have the Oscar Meyer uncured bacon (no nitrates) so I will be in WalMart come Sunday to hunt that and fresh broccoli (forgot the frozen), cheesecake if they have a nice one or at least better than the commissary’s, pumpkin pie if it looks good, otherwise I will make a pumpkin pie and a cherry pie either Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning -- we have a church service Wednesday evening. Dinner is at 1 ish (probably later because youngest GS will be too excited to eat until he opens his presents). Hmmm - buy or make a cheesecake? maybe they will start to look better on Sunday.....

    Have a good rest-of-the-day.
