Chocolate Caramel Layer Squares Recipe
Came across this in an old cookbook and it appealed to my sweet tooth. Going to try it out soon.

Ingredients
  • 1 (14 oz) bag of Kraft caramels
  • 2/3 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 pkg German chocolate cake mix
  • 3/4 cup melted margarine
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 1 (6 oz) bag chocolate chips

Directions
  1. Combine caramels and 1/2 cup evaporated milk in the top of a double boiler. Cook until caramels are melted. Stir often. Remove from heat.
  2. Combine dry cake mix, remaining milk and margarine.
  3. Mix with an electric mixer until dough holds together.
  4. Stir in nuts.
  5. Press 1/2 cake mixture into greased 9"x12" pan.
  6. Bake at 350 degrees for 6 minutes.
  7. Remove from oven and sprinkle with chocolate chips over crust.
  8. Pour caramel mixture over chocolate chips and spread evenly.
  9. Crumble remaining cake mixture over caramel and return to oven for 15 to 18 minutes.
  10. Cool on rack and chill for 30 minutes.
  11. Cut into squares.

Chocolate ships aren't easy to fine. Have to go to a specialty store for them! I just wanted to see if you were really paying attention! LOL... Thanks to Jeff for being so observant!!! Edited my boo boo!


Good post,... glad I don't have to go looking for chocolate ships... they are hard to fit in my grocery bag.. five forks
