Ingredients

  • I out out a small bowl of baking soda. Roaches walk through this and it closes/clogs their pores. They breath through the skin, so this cuts off their breathing. shopping list
  • Or if they eat it, roaches can not pass gas, so they explode!!!! shopping list

  • Now this friend of mine, says his mother puts out a small bowl of that instant concrete mixed with sugar. Beside it she puts a small thing of water, they want a drink after so much food! The bugs eat this walk through he water and harden up, also effectively killing them... I really like this one!! shopping list
  • ~ shopping list
  • Also, whether this one is true or not I can not say, but I was told that if the bugs get into a box of corn flakes and can not get out they will die. NO moisture or something, they dehydrate in there with all that food around them. So put some cornflakes into a jar that they can not crawl out of and leave it where they roam! shopping list

  • sugar water on the same principle of the jar they can not get out of, they climb in to get the sweet water and drown because they can not climb out and now they are sticky!!! I like it, poetic justice! shopping list

  • Interesting Facts! shopping list
  • Roaches do not like soap! shopping list
  • ~ shopping list
  • Consider getting a cat! If your family is looking for a pet, cats will keep after those roaches! It will keep them busy and you happy. Speaking of cats, catnip will keep away the roaches also! Sprinkle some outside around the house, behind the fridge, around the oven, underneath your sinks or other similar places. The catnip will repel the roaches but only if your cat doesn't get to it first! You can find catnap very inexpensively at pet stores in big containers to last you quite awhile. In the same way you use catnip to repel the roaches, you can do the same with bay leaves. You can keep them whole or crush them up and sprinkle around. shopping list

  • Find a water bottle and fill it with water and dish soap. When you find a roach invading your space, spray it with the soapy water. Once you spray the roach, the spray containing the soap will create a filmy layer over the roach, making it unable to breath, eventually killing it. Another mixture to keep in a spray bottle is: shopping list
  • tea tree oil shopping list
  • rosemary oil shopping list
  • Citronella oil shopping list
  • You can find these oils online or at your local health food store. Take these oils and mix them together with water. A few drops of each should be sufficient, depending on the size of your bottle. It will keep the roaches away and will kill a roach on contact. shopping list
  • ~ shopping list
  • If a roach ingests baking soda, it will dehydrate and die. To get a roach to eat baking soda, you need to mix it with something that will attract them. There are a few things you can use, such as: cocoa powder, brown sugar, white sugar or powdered sugar. Whatever you have on hand that is sweet will work. Mix the baking soda and sugary ingredient together and place in small shallow containers. You can use plastic lids or sprinkle the mixture around where the roaches are likely to come out. shopping list
  • Here are a few "recipes" to make with baking soda: shopping list
  • Take sweetened condensed milk and mix with bread crumbs to form a soft paste. Then add 1 - 2 tablespoons of baking soda to the paste. Spread the paste around roaches' favorite places. Don't use too much at once since roaches only like it when it's fresh. Reapply every couple of days. shopping list
  • You can also make dough balls with baking soda. This method is a very easy and mess free way to use baking soda. You will need: shopping list
  • 1 - 2 cups of baking soda shopping list
  • 1 cup of flour shopping list
  • 1 chopped onion or onion powder shopping list
  • 1/4 cup sugar (any kind should work) shopping list
  • 1/2 cup shortening shopping list
  • Mix these ingredients together and add water to form a dough. roll the dough into small balls and place around your home. You could make a bunch at once and keep them in an airtight container to keep it fresh and use as needed. shopping list
  • Roaches are extremely frustrating and can be difficult to get rid of. Make sure to keep replacing any of the above methods you choose and keep your house clean. Sometimes it can take a few weeks to see any difference, but be patient! Your efforts will pay off and eventually you will be roach free by using natural, chemical free practices! shopping list

  • * Make "Roach Food": shopping list
  • 1 part powdered (not granular) boric acid (sometimes sold as a roach-killing powder, but often available in pharmacies (for making anti-pinkeye eyewash)- 1 part white flour- 1 part granulated white sugar- The sugar baits it, the flour makes it stick, and the boric acid kills 'em. Place in the backs of drawers and cabinets, under refrigerator, stove, etc. Expect at least 3 cycles of disappearance/reemergence of progressively smaller hordes of cockroaches, lasting about 2 weeks each. Kids, dogs, and some other pets will eat this mixture. Boric acid is not highly toxic, but is for external use ONLY, so place it where only the bugs can get it. It will cake hard in humid environments, so paper or foil trays may be needed. shopping list
  • 1. shopping list
  • * Dust with boric acid, flour and cocoa (1 part acid, 2 parts flour and 1 part cocoa). Try P.F. Harris Roach tablets. They contain boric acid and a lure. While still dangerous for kids and pets, this product is not as toxic as many insecticides, and the roaches aren't repelled by it so they drag it home and feed it to their hatchlings. Dust a fine coat in cupboards, under sinks, around toilets and any cracks, corners or hollow spaces. Avoid breathing the powder; like any acid, it can irritate the lungs. shopping list

  • Smash up some bay leaves in a bowl. Cockroaches hate the smell of bay leaves. Sprinkle the bay leaves in the corners of your home where you have seen the cockroaches. It is helpful to do this is the kitchen and in the corners of the kitchen cabinets. If you are looking for a way to get rid of cockroaches without killing them, this is it. shopping list
  • # shopping list
  • Step 2 shopping list
  • Use borax. borax is a natural ingredient often used to make homemade laundry detergent. The borax should be sprinkled around the house in spots where cockroaches have been spotted. The cockroach only has to brush up against the borax. The borax is actually rough enough to hurt the cockroaches outer shell. This will cause the cockroach to get dehydrated and die. the cockroach can't stay hydrated when it's shell is damaged. shopping list
  • # shopping list
  • Step 3 shopping list
  • Sprinkle catnip around the house. It has the same effect as the bay leaves. Roaches hate the smell and will stay far away from any area that has the catnip in it. shopping list
  • # shopping list
  • Step 4 shopping list
  • Make a baking soda and sugar mixture. To make a batch just add one cup of baking soda to one cup of sugar. Mix completely and sprinkle around the house. Roaches will be attracted to the sugar and will start to eat it. The baking soda will give the roaches gas and will mess up their insides. This will eventually lead to their death. shopping list

  • Step 5 shopping list
  • Sprinkle Diatomaceous earth around the house. You can use this inside and outside. It is all natural and has pieces of fossils in it. It works the same way as the borax. It cuts the shell of the cockroach which causes the cockroach to not be able to retain water. The cockroach then dies of dehydration. shopping list

  • Wipe up standing water. Cockroaches are essentially water bugs and would love to take a dip in the cereal bowl you left soaking overnight. Make sure the bathroom and kitchen are bone dry! shopping list
  • # Step 2 shopping list
  • Clean up cockroach food supply! shopping list
  • Clean up the kitchen. Everyone gets busy and it is tempting to leave dishes in the sink or crumbs on the counter when you are rushing around. But as tempting as leaving the mess for later can be, clean it up now! It could mean the difference between coming home to a clean kitchen or a juicy cockroach! shopping list
  • # Step 3 shopping list
  • Take the garbage out nightly. While you may think you’ve cleaned up, all you’ve really done is laid out a cockroach’ s dream buffet. Walking to the dumpster can be a daunting task when you’re pooped, but it's worth not waking up to a six legged friend. shopping list
  • # Step 4 shopping list
  • Plug up cockroach access points! shopping list
  • Fill in any cracks or holes. No matter how small the crack or how big the cockroach, somehow they manage their way in. So if you have any crevices that need filling, caulk them up! shopping list

The people I'm living with right now are pretty bad about their housework and such, and have had a roach problem for years. They have a cat so I have to say that doesn't seem to work, as the cat doesn't pay attention to them at all. Perhaps with some cats, though! I am wanting to try the bay leaf, have heard that before, thanks :)

Bravo! I couldn't find any roaches so I put down those glue mouse traps near my fridge and the next morning, there was one roach stuck on the glue. Thank you for all the great ideas. I love crickets outside but it seems that they're coming into the house. Any ideas on what to do with those??? Thank you for taking the time to post all this!

You have ELEVEN ratings on your recipe. I, at least wrote my opinion. Others didn't I commented and i did NOT lowball you. So be careful who you accuse without proof. I still do not believe bugs and food go together and I have a right to express my opinion. You should put this 'recipe' in Household tips.
