Ingredients

How to make it

  • Preheat oven to 325°F
  • Butter a 2 quart baking dish.
  • Spread butter generously on one side of each slice of bread.
  • Line bottom and sides of baking dish with buttered bread.
  • Mix milk, beaten eggs, sugar, salt, raisins, vanilla, Whiskey and cinnamon and pour over bread.
  • Place extra pieces of buttered bread on top and press down to submerge.
  • Allow to stand for 10-12 minutes, longer if bread is on the dry side.
  • Bake, covered for 30 minutes, then uncover for 30 minutes and continue baking for a total of 60 minutes.
  • Remove cover and place under broiler, until top becomes a deep-golden crust.
  • Serve warm with heavy cream and your favourite preserves.
  • Can server 4-6 it just depends on the serving sizes.

    This may well be worthy of cracking a single malt. I would even go so far ast to make a Creme Anglaise with the "more" whiskey and a wee snap of nutmeg. Good recipe.
