I do this all of the time and thought I would share this with all of you frugal cookers out here.

Ingredients
  • Every time I open a can of veggies I drain the liquid off in to those 1/2 gallon plastic milk jugs.
  • I then place this in the freezer.
  • When they are full you can thaw this liquid out and use it as the base to make many a soup from.
  • It is full of all of the good stuff and has great flavor.
  • And yes I even add the spinach liquid.
  • I add the beef, pork and chicken liquid too, but not the tuna. My cats get that!

Thank you for posting this.I have always used the juice from my canned vegies but I taste it to be sure it has some flavor and I check the label for things I don't want like MSG .

I sent you a PM & they really hurt me so I think I'm going to sign off for a while.
People can be so boorish & just plain nasty. It seems to come so easily to some.
I hope Jo takes me out back & shoots me if I ever turned into one.
You know, this would be a good base for gazpacho. It's a cold summer vegetable soup.
If you remind me, I'll tell you how to make it.


I often use cans of veg and I never thought to save the liquid and freeze it. Thanks for the idea!

Right on!
I also save veggie scraps and peelings for veggie broth. Works great! Then, the used pieces can go either in the garbage, or preferably, the compost bin :+D
