Sweet and Sour German Lettuce

- 1 head iceberg lettuce shopping list
- 1/2 cup sugar shopping list
- 1 onion, thinly sliced shopping list
- 3 strips bacon shopping list
- 1/3 cup vinegar shopping list
- 2/3 cup water shopping list
- salt and pepper to taste. shopping list
How to make it
- Cut head of lettuce in half and soak in water to cover, for 1/2 hour. Drain and cut as for cole slaw. Sprinkle with 1/2 cup sugar. Let stand for 1/2 hour.
- Slice up 1 onion, very thinly, and add to lettuce.
- Cut up 3 strips bacon and fry, leaving drippings in pan. Add 1/3 cup vinegar and 2/3 cup water to bacon and bring to a boil.
- Pour over lettuce. Salt and pepper to taste. Serve immediately.
