Ingredients

How to make it

  • Melt butter add minced onion and sauté lightly
  • Add onion to meat, eggs, rice, salt, pepper and minced cilantro and mix thoroughly
  • Remove grape leaves from the brine and rinse them off with fresh water.
  • Select 1 leaf and place a spoonful of meat on leaf, (place in a line across base of leaf)
  • Tuck in edges of leaf and roll into cigar roll shape.
  • Arrange rolls in layers in deep heavy pan and pour Liquid Mixture over them.
  • As I place the layers in the pan, I add sprigs of dill to each layer.
  • Cover pan and cook slowly over low heat at least 1 hour.
  • When serving, pour more lemon juice over rolls on the plate and top with yogurt or sour cream.

I have spent a lot of time in Romania and the cooking is surprisingly good. This is a great rendition of a very typical local dish. Thanks so much. I might make it over the holidays.

This sounds really neat. I've made Cabbagerolls a zillion times before but never this dish with the grape leaves. Very cool. Thanks for the post!
