- 1 cup approx diced lamb, beef, pork, or chicken shopping list
- 1 1/2 lb potatoes, peeled and sliced shopping list
- 1 large onion (or more if you like things really oniony), sliced very thin shopping list
- 1 tbs bacon or meat drippings, or vegetable oil shopping list
- gravy, stock or water shopping list
- salt, pepper shopping list
- nutmeg or allspice shopping list
- chopped parsley, chives or chervil shopping list
How to make it
- Heat drippings or oil in a large pan, add a layer of potatoes, a layer of onion and a layer of meat.
- Add liquid to cover (or less if you like it drier).
- Season with the salt, pepper and other seasonings.
- Repeat the layers and seasonings.
- Cover with a tight-fitting lid and cook on medium heat for about 30 minutes or until potatoes are tender and liquid is mostly absorbed. Shake the pan occasionally while cooking.
- Serve sprinkled with the parsley, chives or chervil.
