Ingredients

How to make it

  • Heat drippings or oil in a large pan, add a layer of potatoes, a layer of onion and a layer of meat.
  • Add liquid to cover (or less if you like it drier).
  • Season with the salt, pepper and other seasonings.
  • Repeat the layers and seasonings.
  • Cover with a tight-fitting lid and cook on medium heat for about 30 minutes or until potatoes are tender and liquid is mostly absorbed. Shake the pan occasionally while cooking.
  • Serve sprinkled with the parsley, chives or chervil.

    aaah...
    just had this for the first time on my trip to scotland...

    incredibly delicious for something so simple...
    and i guess it's different depending who makes it...

    Sounds like one of those recipes that turns out different every time it's made. Easy enough for kids to do too, assuming you trust their knife skills...
