Sausage Bread Recipe
My wifes take on a traditional Italian bread served at the holidays. Considering she's an English/Scottish mix, its really good. Better than my familys.

Ingredients
  • 1 package frozen bread dough(3 loaves)-thawed
  • 3-4 lbs. ground sausage
  • 16-20 oz. package fresh spinach
  • 1 large can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 large chopped onion
  • grated cheese
  • olive oil

Directions
  1. Saute onion & sausage until browned & crumbly
  2. Drain excess fat and sprinkle lightly on rolled dough
  3. Break up spinach & sprinkle over sausage
  4. Add a few spoonfuls of smashed tomatoes then top with a little grated cheese
  5. Sprinkle lightly with olive oil
  6. Roll into long loaf, pinch in ends
  7. Let rise on a cookie sheet for an hour or two
  8. Bake @ 375 ½ hour or until golden brown
  9. Before baking, wipe top with oil.

Wow, this makes a lot, but it sounds so good. Does it freeze well?


Yes, this does freeze well. Thaw, slice and heat in the oven uncovered @ 350 for about 20 minutes.
