This is fabulous! I used an 11" cast iron frying pan that used to be my great grandmothers.

Adding the butter & brown sugar under the bottom crust gives unique surprise. Due to the size of the pan I baked this an additional 15 minutes. The results were "over the top"!

    Thanx, for the recipe.

I have this huge shopping bag of apples. Now I know where to start...........with this great recipe. Should I use a cast iron pan for this?

I have noticed that in the States most folk seem to use the lovely Granny Smith apples for cooking. In the U.K. they are one of our favourite Eating apples. Do you not use a cooking apple for pies and such like in the U.S? We always use cooking apples here as they are sharper for cooking than the ordinary dessert apples which tend to be sweeter.
