How to make it

  • Combine flour, corn meal, salt, and sugar.
  • Dissolve soda in buttermilk
  • Add to corn meal mixture
  • Add beaten eggs
  • Add salad oil
  • Mix well
  • Cook on greased griddle or large iron skillet

    I use this as my cornbread recipe. Excellant!
    I also use it to make johnny cakes to eat with home made vegetable beef soup. Hmmm!

    I grew up eating corn meal flapjacks... I think my Grandma called them Johnny Cakes. I love them we had them at breakfast with syrup and butter... and sometimes at supper with our meal as the bread in the summer... No turning on the oven in our house when it was hot ... unless the preacher was coming to dinner! LOL
