Ingredients

How to make it

  • Bake cake according to directions in a 13X9 inch pan.
  • When the cake is cool, using the handle of a wooden spoon, poke holes in the cake. Try to keep the holes in uniform rows, as close together as possible without collapsing the entire thing.
  • Slowly drizzle the sweetened condensed milk in each hole until its gone, covering the cake.
  • Do the same with the caramel ice cream topping.
  • Let the cake chill for several hours to soak up the syrupy liquids.
  • Spread the cool whip over the top of the cake in a thick layer.
  • Sprinkle crushed candy bars over the cool whip.

I am so totally making this cake. My mom makes a poke cake like this only using jello (whatever flavor jello you want)She's never called it anything other than a her jello poke cake but I think just for the fun of it I'll never call it that again. Almost better than sex sounds so much better!

Just wanted to stop by and thank you for the recipe for the better then sex cake. I absolutely LOVE the looks I get when I tell everyone I'm making it...and then they taste it, and say "yeah I can understand why it's named that". Take care! ~Shea~

Yeah I've seen other versions floating around.. one used butterscotch pudding in place of the caramel.

Oh yes, a family favorite. You are right, it is so very sweet, so a little piece goes a long way, but man is it ever worth the splurge! This recips goes back to somewhere around the '80s I believe, and so many different variations have arisen since then, but this one is STILL the best, in my opinion!
