How to make it

  • Beat butter or margarine and cream cheese in mixer bowl until light and fluffy.
  • Add flour gradually, beating well after each addition.
  • Roll dough to 1/8 inch thickness on lightly floured surface.
  • Cut into 2-inch circles.
  • Spoon 1/4 teaspoon jam into center of each circle.
  • Fold opposite edges together, slightly overlapping edges.
  • Place 2 inches apart on greased or parchment paper lined cookie sheet.
  • Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 12-15 minutes.
  • Remove to wire rack to cool.
  • Sprinkle with confectioners' sugar.
  • Recipe Makes 2 dozen
  • Note: My Mother-in-law often tried to flip the open ends up a bit. I sometimes roll pieces of dough into a ball and press the bottom of a small juice glass into the centre. Then I fill the indentation with jam or preserves and it doesn't spill out.

I have tried these and they are absolutely delicious. I love the dough, flaky, I had the recipe a while ago that called for less flour, but it crumbled too easy, this is just perfect and easier to handle if left in fridge to rest. Thanks Lor. Rolled mine in sugar and cinamon.
You should all try it, the dough is great for sweet tarts too.
    Malak.

Oooooooo...These sound yummy! I love cream cheese dough. It is so easy and so tender and tasty. Does the jam run at all while baking to necessitate the use of parchment paper? Will try soon. Thanks!

Hi Lak and sorry to hear that you are not able to make 2 dozen Jam Kolaches. I don't know what you are doing wrong but possibly you are making them too big. Are you rolling the dough thin enough? I happen to love the recipe and have been making them for years. If your results are not to your liking, maybe use a different jam or preserve. You can always double the recipe and that would most certainly solve your problem.

I love these cookies - but please tell me what I am doing wrong - I do not get two dozen when I make them! I have the same recipe that you do, but never seem to get much more than a dozen! They taste great - but I am thinking maybe they may taste better! Thanks!

My Grandma P would make these with a sweet nut filling that she made herself or with a stewed prune puree. Jam is easier and just as delcious. Thanks for the memory dear. They will be on our table again this year.

Yes, they are delicious, and this is the same recipe that I have....make them every year at Christmas! I make them with apricot preserves.

These are so easy to make. When I was little, if my mother had left over pastry dough from a pie she would make these little treats. Believe me, it was such a treat! I loved them then just as much as I enjoy them now.

Our supermarket has a great bakery and sells these things. To die for....however, they charge the earth for them. Thank you for this easy recipe--I'm going to make them myself!
