Now... who makes these anymore? Another lost recipe.. McCalls Recipe Cards 1970 era.. I have made these.. and love them.. yummy!

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup fresh white bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 pound ground veal
  • 1/4 pound ground pork
  • 1 egg slightly beaten
  • 3 tablespoons chopped fine onion
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon white pepper ( I use black)
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 beef bouillon cube
  • Boiling water
  • 1/2 cup light cream (I use half and half)
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon snipped fresh dill OR 2 teaspoons dried dill...

Directions
  1. In a small bowl soak bread crumbs in milk about 5 minutes
  2. in a large bow. combine meats, egg, onion, salt, pepper, allspice and bread mixture and toss gently with fork just to combine.
  3. using hands gently shape mixture into about 30 meatballs
  4. In hot butter in large skillet, saute' meatballs, half at a time until they are browned and cooked all the way through-- about 10 minutes.
  5. Remove meatballs as they are cooked and place in a large bowl.
  6. Remove skillet from heat
  7. Add flour to drippings, stir until smooth.
  8. Add bouillon cube, then 3/4 cup hot water
  9. Bring to boil over medium heat, stirring until cube is dissolved and mixture is smooth... scrape bottom of pan for goodies
  10. Add cream and milk... simmer GENTLY stirring for about 3 minutes..
  11. Add meatballs to sauce, toss to coat
  12. Cool quickly, then cover and put in frig over night..
  13. To serve: Reheat gently, sprinkle with dill.
  14. These are great with buttered egg noodles...
  15. I like to made a recipe and a half of the sauce....
  16. ENJOY a old favorite!

I think my great-grandma was the only one who used leftover mashed potatoes in hers...good either way!!!

Turned out awesome! Instead of the bouillon used a beef base paste. Very good Linda.


I love Swedish meatballs. Funny how some people call BBQ meatballs Swedish, I don't think so.


Love this recipe - oldie but goodie!


I make these! Fell in love with swedish meetballs in one of my visits to Sweden. I eat them like they do, with mashed potatoes and lingon jam. Lingon jam is a wild berry jam that goes perfectly with meatballs.
