These carmels are great . A great gift for neighbors, teachers, or just to snack on anytime !

Ingredients
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup dark Karo syrup
  • 1/2 lb. (2 cubes) real butter
  • 1- 12-oz can Sego milk (evaportated milk)
  • 1 cup pecans or walnuts(optional)

Directions
  1. Combine the ingredients in a heavy-bottomed pan.
  2. Add a candy thermometer
  3. Cook while stirring until the thermometer reaches 240*
  4. Add 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts(optional) and pour into a buttered 9 x 13 pan.
  5. Cool in refrigerator.
  6. Cut the caramels with a serrated knife.
  7. Wrap individual pieces in plastic and wrap and store in a plastic bat.

Looks like I missed one of my favorite candies while I was gone - glad I happened to see it today! It just isn't the holidays without a batch of homemade caramels...thanks for sharing your recipe.
