German Soup

- 1 pound dried split peas shopping list
- 4 large potatoes partially peeled shopping list
- 2 large white onions peeled shopping list
- 10 whole carrots unpeeled shopping list
- 4 cloves garlic chopped shopping list
- 2 packages Polish sausage shopping list
- 4 tablespoons mixed spices (thyme, bay leaves, cumin, cracked peppercorns, salt, oregano, celery shopping list
- seeds, caraway seeds, dry mustard, rosemary, mace, red pepper, marjoram) shopping list
- 1 tablespoon olive oil shopping list
How to make it
- Soak peas in 3 quarts of water for several hours washing three times.
- Bring peas to a rolling boil and add chopped potatoes, onions and sliced carrots.
- Boil 4 hours.
- Heat olive oil in double boiler.
- Add spices and garlic cloves.
- Cook 10 minutes then add to soup.
- Cover and cook over low heat for 45 minutes.
- Add sliced sausage and cook 30 minutes longer.
