Ingredients

How to make it

  • In large mixer bowl, on medium speed beat butter until fluffy
  • Gradually add ONLY 2 cups sugar, beating well
  • Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating until blended after each addition
  • In another bowl, combine flour and baking soda
  • Add to butter mixture alternately with buttermilk, beginning and ending with flour mixture
  • Beat at low speed until blended after each addition
  • STIR in dates, pecans, and ONLY 2 teaspoons grated orange rind
  • Pour batter into greased and floured 10-inch tube pan
  • Bake at 350 for 1 hour 10 minutes or until sooden pick inserted in center comes out clean
  • Bring orange juice, REMAINING 2 cups sugar and REMAINING rind to boil in saucepan, stirring constantly, 1 minute
  • Carefully run a knife around edge of cake gently, punch holes in cake with a wooden pick
  • Drizzle orange juice glaze over warm cake
  • COOL IN PAN on wire rack
  • When cool, turn cake onto plate or stand
  • ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! WONDERFUL! ENJOY!

    Been making this recipe for 50 years but with lemon glaze instead of orange. Give the lemon a try, the slight tang against the sweet dates and sugar of the glaze is a perfect combination.
